Lavender Crush Climber

I picked up this Lavender Crush at Wal-Mart back in the spring. It was in one of those cheap 'body bags' for about $7. It finally put out a nice cluster of roses a few days ago. The roses are beautiful, but the smell is just incredible. Hard to describe, but it's somewhat like the best smelling strong scented soap that you can imagine. I wish computer screens had 'scratch and sniff' technology!

Anyway, I'll be keeping an eye out for these again next spring. I can only imagine what a large bush covered in these roses would smell like. Also, nice dark green foliage and no diseases at all thus far. Highly recommended.

I got one of those too and it's finally blooming up a storm since deciding to live. Yours looks fantastic! P.S. Did your Walmart have David Austins, as well.

I can't recall now, but I don't think so. Home Depot also had a ton of the 'body bag' roses, too. I bought eight total from the two stores and all but one survived. I'll be back in about six months scouring the shelves again lol.

Hi Cori Ann, Do you need the rose to actually "climb" on something or just need the height of a climber? Paradise is a tall HT with stiff canes that wouldn't be easy to train to climb unless you got the climbing sport...but in your climate, the non-climber might get tall enough as a free standing bush if that fits your need. We have colder winters here, and I prune my non climbing version of Paradise to around 2 ft beginning of each season...still it grows to at least 7 ft by fall each season. @BenT (NorCal 9B Sunset 14), your LC blooms are certainly beautiful. I wish mine would be like that. Mine only look good when the blooms just opening. Then the color is quickly washed out and does not look attractive. This is only spring and the weather is mostly pleasant. I can understand that @PDXRobertZ8 had to remove it. Mine does not take a prime spot.

I bought three at Walmart last year. I potted them all up and they grew well. Some of the areas that had waxed canes don't look so good now. But they all are showing new growth and two look pretty promising. It does repeat well. They were pretty purple here with whitish reverse. Very good fragrance. I put one on my picket fence. Sorry this is such a bad picture but it's all I have. This doesn't show the whitish reverse.

Gorgeous! I just looked this up to see if it grows in my zone. What success are people having with it in zone 4 and 5?

Well I hate to be a party pooper but my body bag Lavender Crush has been a total dud. Second year in the ground and it's still the same size it was a month after I planted it. Has been watered and fertilized three times this year and doesn't grow. Produced three tiny distorted quarter size flowers and just sits there. Gets BS and defoliates regularly. On one side is a huge Princesse Charlene de Monaco I planted this spring and on the other side is an ownroot bareroot Crown Princess Margareta I planted also this spring that is already 5' tall. LC is out of here next year and I will probably not replace it with another even if I was to find another. Body bags the end of August? It is in the high 80s low 90s here yet!

Sorry to hear that. : (( I sometimes think these bagged roses have their roots cut so short they not recover. I had DA grafted roses from Lowe's do the same. They are so mistreated being cut and shoved into a tiny pot that it's hard to correct it. Mine does get some BS on the lower leaves, but hasn't lost many. Maybe Z5 is too cold?
