I would paint the garage door as close to the brick color as possible so it doesn't become a focal point. With the dark roof, I wouldn't want another big expanse of dark brown and white would stick out like a sore thumb. Then pick a color you love for the shutters and door - if you like it, a darker blue would be nice.

That's my suggestion too. Don't outline the garage door in white. Paint door, jamb and stops the same color.

I'd replace the louvered shutters with raised panel style. Or, remove them and try that look.

The door can be SW In The Navy, satin sheen.

While you're at it, repaint the lamp post the same as the garage door to help it blend in.

The weather strips are easily and economically replaced. HD and Amazon offers every style of weather strips. Compression or Magnetic are easily replaced. Remove a strip and take to HD and ask for help to match it.

Youtube is your friend.

A glass shop can replace the glass with obscure glass. Compare that to new door price.

I would replace the door for weather/security purposes. I would replace the shutters too, if they are vinyl, the cleaning and prep requires so that paint won't peel is a lot of work. Dark brown shutters, maybe a teal door. If you went with pink shutters/door you would have to paint the brick pink also.

I wouldn't remove the shutters as someone else suggested. I just put mine back up. We painted ours "wild raspberry", which is a reddish brown. I would paint the garage door one of the colours from the brick to blend it in. Trim the windows in white.

I like garage doors to add to the house, but not stick out. The brick is earth tone....LOVE IT...BTW....a very pretty house to work with Kathsgrdn. As you can see from Elizabeths' mock up....a seal coat of black tar/asphalt coating, makes it look new. Classy is always in style!

For my eye, I'd paint the garage door either the roof color or whatever color you choose for the shutters. Painting it to match the brick would be mousy. It's an opportunity for a matching contrast to the brick.

It's important in your climate to replace your front door or get the weatherstripping replaced. That will more than pay for itself in heating and cooling cost savings.

I think the shutters in front are a bit too narrow but I get it, they're sized to "match" the adjacent window panels. I wouldn't change them.

It is a nice looking house, looks very homey and comfortable.

In painting the door to match the brick the problem is that the brick is not one color. You can squint your eyes and visualize a color but having it match exactly is hard. Depending on the direction of the house if it faces into the direction of the sun a lighter shade would not absorb as much heat as a darker one would. Keeping your garage cooler. The older advice was to paint garage, front door and house trim to match rather than various colors to give an overall appearance.

A suggestion for the front door if you decide not to replace is one of those sheets that will adhere to glass. There are some that have a very dense pattern. They used to be used on bathroom windows to provide privacy.

I agree with Elmer. The garage can match the roof. The color you have now looks fine, just freshen it up.

You don't have to match the shutters with the garage. I'm not a fan of your red with the blond brick. I am off to google for suggestions for shutters.

ETA: I think a shade of teal, similar to Elizabeth's direction of a dark green, would look nice. You could even do the door with it. Teal would play well with the blond brick as well as the brown garage and roof.

Thanks Nicole, I like it! I decided against teal for the shutters, went by a house with them on my way to work. I didn't care for it. I'm thinking the dark green for shutters.

Normally, I agree with matching garage door to house color to make it disappear, but in this case, because of the location and placement of the garage, I prefer the darker color to coordinate with the roof. The front door may be nice painted a shade of gold or orange as the flowers you have along the front are nice with the brick.

I forgot to mention. Since the front does look tired and worn, a good power wash, done by professionals, followed by a sealant will make a dramatic improvement and provide a clean slate to work with. New shutters won't take care of the film below them.

Also, a landscape can change things. Remove and replace everything with low maintenance, native shrubs and perennials.

Olychick....Kaths only got one garage door...surrounded by brick. NOT a house with endless pink stucco! That house is one of mine....and being worked on. :0) It's "unfinished" and needs a lot to pretty it up!

I disagree w/ power washing. A big NO! And the colorful marigolds are beautiful! The existing foundation plantings are enough. Very pretty house to work with!

Nicole, there are also 2 big orange zinnias in there. ( : I tried to do a purple, yellow, orange and white combo but all the purple petunias died. The only purple flowers I could find were lighter in color and smaller so not as easily seen with all that orange. Today went to a nursery for lunch and walked through their green house afterwards. There were black pansies and I really thought I should get some for a Halloween effect, but didn't.

A new outdoor light too...?

Maybe, the thing isn't working right now. The bulbs were burning out too fast and the last time I tried to take the old bulb out it broke off at the base.

A comment on the bulbs burning out too fast. I used to have that problem with my outdoor light. Which looks similar to yours. Someone suggested I was using the wrong type of bulb. Turns out that some bulbs work better with the base at the bottom or at the top. This was probably ten years ago and when I looked at the various labels there was a difference. The suppliers may have fixed it so both work fine in all kinds of fixtures. I could count on the bulb burning out about every two months. Worst case is you need an electrician to check to see if the fixture is having electric surges.

If you put in an LED bulb that's suitable for an enclosed outdoor fixture (it'll say so on the package) , maybe it'll last.

Heat is the enemy of bulbs. The high temperatures you have in the summer together with what appears to be a closed fixture are not likely to let bulbs last long, no matter what.

I like the present color scheme. I wouldn't change it very much. If you darken the garage door to match the roof, it will be overpowering. Leave it the shade it is now. It can be a little darker than the brick. As of now, you have a nice color combinations of the rain gutters, roof, brick siding, window frames, and shutters. You might choose to paint the entry door the same color as the garage door. Its not a good idea to have too many different colors on the front facing areas. I recommend keeping a palate of browns and tans (keying off the brick color) and have the shutters carry a brighter color for a splash of accent. Don't stray very far from what you have now. Its a neat appearing house.

I've tried the more expensive bulbs that are supposed to last years in my lamp, they burn out fast too. Maybe it is the heat doing it. I do need to have an electrician look at it. Jemdandy, the garage used to be darker, maybe darker than the roof, when I first bought the house. It and the shutters have faded quite a bit over the years.

I went to lunch with a friend today and she picked me up. I guess because I wasn't driving and paying attention to pulling out of the garage and closing it, I noticed a big crack in the brick at the top of the garage door on the right side. Now I have to seal it back up. So many things to fix on the house, the front door may have to wait and so may just paint it for the time being.
