OT: a look at New Mexico
Comments (7)holleygarden, if you are looking for someplace special to eat, we can heartily recommend Bistro 315 & Wine Bar, near the plaza, if you like French food. By NMexico standards it isn't cheap, but the food was lovely. My DH had the pork osso bucco special and it was absolutely amazing, full of luscious intense porky flavor. His beet salad was the best he'd ever had, and considering we eat beet salads as often as we can here in food-crazed San Francisco Bay Area, that's the highest praise he can give. I know Gallisteo bistro also ranks very high, but we didn't get the chance to try them, they were all booked up when I tried to make a reservation. There is a small culinary academy on Santa Fe's main plaza, which has one-day cooking classes if you're interested. Of the few restaurants we were able to try in Santa Fe, we liked Antonio's Fine Dining much better than Tomasita's. Their shrimp chimichanga was very good, and we liked the style of their sopaipillas - light and flakey instead of the heavier, soaks-up-the-oil bread dough type most restaurants offer. Most places serve them as dessert, you break it apart and drizzle it with honey (and butter, which makes it even tastier, LOL). We weren't very impressed with the spiciness of NMexico chile sauces, finding them extremely mild in comparison to what we get here in California, but my DH wants to import those sopaipillas by the dozen! He loved them!...See MoreUPDATE: Pedal Pushers Oct. Swap
Comments (55)Monica, I am a stay at home mom and have felt very overwhelmed on occasion. Especially when the kids were babies. We sometimes feel as if we are not doing everything just right. The kitchen may be clean and the kids are happy and playing but the laundry has piled up. The flowers are weeded but now the toys are all over the house. Or finally everything seems to be picked up and in its place you can now relax for a while, oh no, wait, you need to start dinner! I still feel like that occasionally but then I stop myself and think I am only human. I have done quite a lot of work, we are getting take out. A rare thing in our house but a nice break from dishes after a long day is not a bad thing. I try to get several things accomplished every day but also try to do one thing that I want to do. Something that will make me happy. Not a regular chore, just something that I have been wanting to get done. If you go back to work you are going to need to ask your hubby for help with chores. It is just not possible to do all that you do now and have a full or even part time job. You need to make an agreement before you start back on which chores you would like him to help with. You will have a lot less stress this way. I love the idea of Christmas just appearing over night. I think it must have been amazing for my Mom and her brothers and sisters to wake up and see that miracle on Christmas morning. But! I need to tell you the downside of this... My grandparents stayed up all night getting all of this ready for the kids. Can you imagine all the cooking and cleaning up for company that had to be done on NO Sleep? AH! I am like you. I love to sit by the fireplace and watch the lights on the Christmas Tree. Seeing all the old ornaments with the new ones, ornaments we made when we were kids that mom gave back to us once we started our families, the ornaments the kids have made. A christmas tree is like seeing generations of family and tradition all together in one spot....See MoreHumor Thread for Oct Nov Dec 2007
Comments (46)Dear Husband: I'm writing you this letter to tell you that I'm leaving you for good. I've been a good woman to you for seven years and I have nothing to show for it. These last two weeks have been hell. Your boss called to tell me that you had quit your job today and that was the last straw. Last week, you came home and didn't notice that I had gotten my hair and nails done, cooked your favorite meal and even wore a brand new negligee. You came home and ate in two minutes, and went straight to sleep after watching the game. You don't tell me you love me anymore, you don't touch me or anything. Either you're cheating or you don't love me anymore, whatever the case is, I'm gone. P.S. If you're trying to find me, don't. Your BROTHER and I are moving away to West Virginia together! Have a great life! Your Ex-wife Dear Ex-wife: Nothing has made my day more than receiving your letter. It's true that you and I have been married for seven years, although a good woman is a far cry from what you've been. I watch sports so much to try to drown out your constant nagging. Too bad that doesn't work. I did notice when you cut off all of your hair last week, the first thing that came to mind was "You look just like a man!" My mother raised me to not say anything if you can't say anything nice. When you cooked my favorite meal, you must have gotten me confused with MY BROTHER, because I stopped eating pork seven years ago. I went to sleep on you when you had on that new negligee because the price tag was still on it. I prayed that it was a coincidence that my brother had just borrowed fifty dollars from me that morning and your negligee was $49.99. After all of this, I still loved you and felt that we could work it out. So when I discovered that I had hit the lotto for ten million dollars, I quit my job and bought us two tickets to Jamaica. But when I got home you were gone. Everything happens for a reason I guess. I hope you have the filling life you always wanted. My lawyer said, with your letter that you wrote, you won't get a dime from me. So take care. P.S. I don't know if I ever told you this but Carl, my brother was born Carla. I hope that's not a problem. Signed, Rich and Free...See MoreSS Support Mon. Oct. 16th through Sun. Oct. 22nd
Comments (20)Hi all, Not sure what all to say since I've been away so long. At least you still remember me. :D Re the way of eating question. I've changed my way of eating at least several times in my life, this most recent being lower carb. I try to keep it under 75, but don't always succeed. If I go very low, my heart gets more irregular, which makes me concerned. I don't eat desserts or junk snacks and deny myself things I want, like muffins, but don't feel like I'm getting the results now that I should given my diligence. I've kept my calories lower than what I'm theoretically supposed to be eating for most of my life. I wish the whole thing worked for me like it's supposed to. My relationship with that guy I've talked about for the last three years is difficult for me now. I don't think anything really bad is happening, but the closeness we had has pretty much ended over this last year, so I'm going through a grieving process, facing that some things I thought would last, didn't. Lots of my old issues have come up and it's been harder than I expected. I've been working on my art still so that part is good. Still not over the top, though. My younger son is going to be doing seminars on open source tools for .NET, and his first one is tomorrow on NUnit. Still haven't heard from the older one for three years now, though I've sent things, called, and left messages. Heather is still good, and I just ordered her some kitty food from the net that is supposed to be a healthy mix that is close to what kitties eat in the wild. I'll post this and then read more. I've planted another garden with lettuce, tomatoes, parsley, zucchini, broccoli, green onions, cauliflower, and different types of flowers, including a purple hibiscus bush and a yellow one. It's a good time of year here. Does anyone know what the story is with Happyto? Haven't heard about her in some time. She was here when I first started and had lost 80 lbs, but then ended up gaining it back when she started eating carbs again. And I remember when her husband passed and she got involved in her church, but I don't know what happened after that. Amy...See MoreIdaClaire
