What is Pine Bark Fines
Comments (41)can't find any fines. How about composted horse bedding? I know of a pile about 10ft tall. It's pretty dark. I'm growing tomatoes & peppers if it matters. I'm looking for something that needs minimal refreshing yearly; I'v been reusing my mix of soilless mix + municipal compost---I discard about a third to half and replace it with compost, peat & perlite. I don't really have any problem with my current method except having to redo 30-40 5-gallon buckets each year and getting compost & other ingredients. Even with a cement mixer it takes me forever---It took me into July to get all my plants in, including raised beds......See MorePines with 4 needles
Comments (16)I grew up in the bottom of Grand Canyon and some of the pinyons had 4 needles. My father and I ran the water pumps that supplied the North Rim 5 miles down the Bright Angle trail for years. Pop always told me there were double and single needle Pinyons so I was surprised to find 4 needlle pinyons. He cried B.S. so I took him a quarter mile up the trail from the Power House 5.2 mies down from North Rim and proved it. These needls were well formed and full lenth from the branch and on anchient looking trees. This was in the 1970's. I'm sure these trees still exist....See Morewhat pine?? cone
Comments (6)hmmmm ... i took the first suggestions... but the cone seemed a bit flimsy ... so i googled sugar pine.. and came up with the link below.. which looks closer.. regardless.. i am sure its not a midwestern pine.. so it has to be something i have never heard of.. it has to be cultivated or obtained for commercial purposes ... so it cant be too rare ... i would think ... thanks for the lead ... any reason it couldnt be the one at the link?? ken PS: i would have been hounded out of the family if i asked for a pic of the pine cone in front of the altar.. Here is a link that might be useful: link...See Morewhat pine is this?
Comments (6)Resin, thanks. I probably won't be able to get a cone any time soon, if ever. However, here is the location of the tree, at the Cape Verde embassy...and how perfect, if you pan around 180 degrees, you will see what a typical Pinus strobus looks like in the DC area. You will see why I have a preference! https://www.google.com/maps/@38.924747,-77.067875,3a,75y,29.07h,97.3t/data=!3m6!1e1!3m4!1szySFqdpleZrdekdTgGi1tw!2e0!7i13312!8i6656...See MoreEmbothrium
