Can I skim coat with success my new bathroom drywall and plaster?
Comments (4)GreenDesigns, thanks for your input. I am not plastering, just skim coating a thin joint compound over the entire drywall surface to even out the contrasting textures between the dry wall paper and the smoother areas of joint compound at the seams and at the screw sites. Maybe "skim coat" is the wrong term, or used loosely in this application. I have read multiple opinions on the use of moisture resistant wall boards. Opinions are very divided. I was miss leading in my OP in that this is a moist room, as this room has never gotten steamy in the 22 years we've lived here and there was no fan. There is no shower, just a tub. But, because this is a bathroom I can assume there is more moister than, say, the living room. What I have read regarding regular drywall is that if it is used in the non wet areas of the bathroom it really is more important to have a proper primer and paint installation to protect the wall system. When my kitchen was done last year the drywallers did skim coat my walls, I just wasn't there to see how they did it. I have watched the USG video and it is straight forward enough. I have attached a link below. Lastly, to provide some context, this room is not our main bath, that is why there is no shower. This bathroom is next to my kitchen. The bathroom is really a combo utility room/bathroom for our farm house. Here is a link that might be useful: US Gypsum video on level 5 finish....See MoreShould I move the kitchen or bathroom? Comments (3)I have a washing machine in my kitchen area and HATE IT! I see in your option 3 you have the stacked washer and dryer in your eating nook. In my household there are always laundry baskets that have to be stored somewhere (which takes up space in an already small kitchen). Just something to think about. Also, is there a reason you need a bathtub on the main floor? If you could get rid of it you'd have alot more space because you wouldn't need such a huge bathroom....See MoreWhat color should I paint my bathroom wall please?

Comments (11)Hang 2 towel bars close to the rear of the tub for easy convenience, one above the other, 1 higher with hand towels and another lower for bath towels (hang towels on rods to see what height is best, before installation. I would hang 2 large pictures, matching size & frames (maybe black frames) center these 2 between the moved towel bars and the other end of the wall. I would also paint the walls a real color. Beige or off white is so blah. I wish everyone would get over whites & beige for all their wall paint. Why be boring and look like everyone else that has no ideas. Live a little. Do this in the rest of our home as well. Never go with the "in" thing because it is "in". Life is too short. Be an independent thinker....See MoreUser
