Comments (42)I know exactly how you feel, Kwie2011. When I stumbled up to that website, I think I suffered from sleep deprivation shortly thereafter, lol. I combed over as much of it as I could, trying to soak it all in. I was devastated when the original site stopped functioning. I thought all of Steve's knowledgeable information was lost to those of us online. You can't imagine how thrilled I was when I learned that the IAS had archived it. I'm always going back to read up on different sections whenever I get the chance. Seeing as how I live here in Arkansas, not too far from his "Exotic Rainforest," I plan on some day heading on up there to check it out for myself. As beautiful as the pictures are, I'm certain that they don't entirely do this place any justice. :)...See MoreRhaphidophora tetrasperma
Comments (14)As soon as possible. Aroid seeds do not stay viable for a long time. if you wait for a certain time of year they will die. You can start them in a slightly damp folded paper towel in a zipper bag and when it has roots about a half inch long transfer them to soil. keep them away from cold and in bright indirect light. No direct sun!...See MoreRainforest garden in the rainy season (lots of pics)
Comments (14)That's funny, I've never seen M. adansonii sold up here but R. tetrasperma often shows up labeled Philodendron, or "Little Monster" with no genus name. If you're on the coast at Coffs you're in an ideal place for a lot of things. My research turned up that crystallinum was more of a tropical lowland plant but the similar looking clarinervium was from higher altitudes. The higher altitude plants can often take it a bit cooler but they don't usually do well in heat. I tried Begonias here but they keeled over very fast. Bunnings sells them from time to time (as they do a lot of things whether they're suitable or not) but I've never seen anyone growing any here. Saw some in the mountains in PNG, higher altitude plants apparently. But they're definitely not on the native plant list for the NT....See MoreMonstera obliqua yellowing leaves
Comments (12)I'm near Darwin so mine are outside growing up through trees. They look really nice when you have multiple vines with a thick mass of leaves. So yes, putting more cuttings in the pot is a good idea. But they might want more light than the one in your photo gets. Saw a M. kessleri the other day in a nursery but it looked suspiciously too much like Raphidophora tetrasperma so didn't buy it. This nursery often gets IDs wrong. There's a few photos of some of mine onthis thread....See Morerobert567
