The beauty of the USA is the democracy in goods available and in pricing for those goods. Matters not if it is a bath towel! You can find one for a 1.99 or you can pay 50.00 bucks. But the point is you probably need not go WITHOUT a bath towel!..........and in many countries you'd do exactly that. So it is with a sofa. Nobody is saying you can't have one for 2k or less. You certainly can! Just don't apply the EXPECTATIONS that would go to one three times that price. That is ALL any one of us is saying. JEEEEESH.

Thanks to everyone who commented! I am going to look into your suggestions! As Sabrina Alfin said, we don't own a home right now, so this is part of the reason why we don't want to spend so much on a sofa. I found some interesting ones on CB, RB, and PB but I got nervous after reading some reviews claiming that sofas from these brands became awful after only a year of moderate use (I read a couple of these on houzz). And there's also the feather situation. Anyways, thanks again!

I think it would depend on the couch in question. In general used uphostered furniture is a huge bargain. I think if one goes to the home and inspects in person, one would get a good idea of the kind of household it was. If is is stained or odiferous, then don't buy it. In general - not always - a good quality sofa is simply more comfortable to sit on. And often the fabrics used are more beautiful. That of course depends on the sofa. Of course it is easier to go to IKEA and order a sofa versus taking some time to track down used sofas which may or may not pan out. You probably wouldn't be able to take home a sofa the same day unless you were incredibly lucky in terms of finding a used style you like. I would assume that these sofas are place holders while you wait for the sofa . you actually want to come into inventory.

If you have other options, I would pass on that apartment. It may have one bedroom, but it essentially has no living space. The "room" where the entrance is is essentially unusable due to traffic patterns, so any living you are going to do will be in the kitchen or bedroom. If it weren't for the partial room dividers between the entry room and the kitchen, you could probably make an okay combined space. As it is...I would pass on it unless the price was AMAZING, the location was PERFECT, or there was nothing else available.
