Is Omnia Leather Sofa good quality?
Comments (12)I was in the market for leather furniture that had larger than average seat height and depth; I'm 6'. After several visits to the store and research, I decided on the Omnia Kingsbury sofa and chair with a Grade 3 leather. A whopping $5,000 purchase. My sales rep was very friendly and informative. The order took approx. 8 week before delivery. I was so excited to get the call that the furniture was in but after examination of the quality I am disappointed. There are several bruises in the leather on the front of the sofa cushions and the chair's cushion has a permanent indentation after only having the furniture for two months! The integrity of the furniture is just not there. If I had to do it all over again, I would not have purchased Omnia! I am not a happy camper. The seams are not even, all of the cushions are filled with different levels of filler and I ordered firm seat cushions but they are not. Based on the quality and integrity of this furniture, I could have gone to Raymour or Ashley, save thousands. Shame on you Omnia for charging $2,700 for the sofa and $2,300 for the chair. Definitely not worth it!...See MoreInsteon a good mix of cost/quality?
Comments (4)beckkl Do a search on Dim4fun - he is the expert in this area. I had a similar need and he was the one who recommended I look at Insteon. I took his advise and am putting Insteon dimmers and contollers throughout my house. The bootom line is that for the price, it is probably the best value for basic automated lighting control. The controllers are about $50 and the dimmers are about $40. Look into www.smarthome.com - they carry the complete line. The key to the Insteon system is to make sure that you set up the dual network properly. Each Insteon device is a transmitter and receiver, but if you have devices that are on different phases of the electrical system - that is when you can have intermitant communication issues. Insteon solved this problem by using a pair of plug in modules that must be installed on opposite phases. These modules take signals that tey receiver over the line and passes them to the other module on the opposite phase. That module will in turn broadcast the signal to any devices on the other phase. A pair of these modules is around $40. I think Insteon is a great system. I have used it before with X10 devices and it works well. I was looking at other higher end solutions, but could not justify the cost. These higher end solutions offer more programmability and interface options - but for what I needed - these were overkill. Insteon also offers a software program that allows you to establish dimming controls on your computer and download them to teach device. It's a nice system - a lot better than X10 - which is only an over line system (but Insteon is compatible with X10 devices too)...See MoreWhere to buy good quality light fixtures? Chrome. Comments (5)'So does a high price automatically indicate good quality?" No, but to make the item at a low price something has to give. Chrome is expensive to do correctly requiring under-plating for many metals, and a thick enough layer to avoid pin holes. Plated brass has similar problems. Pin holes in the plating allow the (often) steel base material to rust under the platting. Thicker platting has less chance of pin holes, but costs more to apply. Solid brass eliminate the whole issue (but you could not afford something made of solid chrome). There is a reason that most of the surviving old chrome plated items made it. Thick chrome correctly applied. The thinly plated items rusted and have been discarded. I have a chrome plated soda bottle opener form the 1950's that looks as good as the day it was made (steel opener mounted on a steel plate and covered with a chrome plated box to catch the bottle tops). It is heavily chrome plated, and while there was light rust on the interior side, the plating on the outside is pristine....See MoreWhere to buy a quality leather sofa?
Comments (9)I have been looking into this as well. Hancock and Moore seems to be the known industry leader in leather furniture with unbeatable quality. Of course you will pay for that. Other that I have come across are Lee Industries and American Leather, as well as Bradington Young. I have looked at these in a local store and they seem quite well made with very comfortable leather, but I obviously can't speak for their longevity. Personally, I am tossing around the Hancock and Moore if I can stomach the cost (simply because I can't find a bad thing about them) or a Bradington Young if I cannot. Plus in the BY I found a style I really like. Here is a really great resource. I believe that the moderator there used to be an active member here before he branched off into a furniture specific forum (maybe one of the older members can correct me if I am wrong) http://www.myfurnitureforum.com/showthread.php?550-Ranking-Furniture-Brands...See Morest5330
