Anyone have input about quartz countertops in kitchen?
Comments (16)Quartz has been a very durable and easy to maintain choice for a client of mine, who IMHO is dirty. As far as hygiene, science has shown over and over again that being "too clean" is actually harmful. Small bacterial challenges are good for the immune system. The polio epidemic of the 1950s exploded because babies were no longer born with antibodies to polio. This was the result of increasing levels of hygiene. Over use of antibiotics and antimicrobials has cause the development of superbugs. I am not promoting dirtyness but I grew up in the era of formica and linoleum counters and sponges etc and I don't think that anyone of my generation suffered for it....See MoreChipping and edge detail issues for granite and quartz
Comments (9)Thank you Oldryder, What about the edge around the undermount sink? If I am understanding you correctly, that edge needs to be finished by hand in order for it to hold up against chips. Am I correct? My sister had Hanstone installed, and has a huge chip along the edge of the opening to the sink. I think I love Quartz, but want to avoid this issue. So if I understand you correctly, it really comes down to the fabricator. I'm also not sure if I know if the fabricator is different from the installer. So much to learn....See MoreYes, quartz chips.
Comments (20)freeoscar "I'm just baffled that you've had the same set of glasses for 30yrs" LOL. I don't know that I take any better care than anyone else. I think most people tire of having the same glassware, dishes, flatware and are often replacing them. I've always made such purchases based on liking the item well enough that I would never want to have to replace it. My flatware and dishes are just as old as my glassware. :-) But my dinner plates have been reduced to 6 now, so clearly they have not survived the 30+ years as well!! And since I rarely use more than 2 or 3 at a time, I don't plan on looking for replacements anytime soon. As far as the glasses, I remember first seeing them in a restaurant and deciding that was what I wanted in my kitchen. They are really are made to last! And you can still buy them. https://www.glassbottlemarks.com/arcoroc-glass-glassware-arques-france/...See MoreQuartz vs granite countertops in kitchen?
Comments (39)My kids are 6, 4, and 2 and we opted to have quartzite countertops installed. I know a lot of people with young children who have quartz or granite countertops and they all seem to be doing fine, but i also understand the other POV that it’s crazy to spend a lot of money on something that the kids are going to beat up anyway.... but I’m not willing to wait 15 years to have a kitchen that i love. As an aside, my grandmother has always had a beautiful house. She favors very fancy decor with a lot of antiques, but was never fussy with her home and it was very well used. With 14 grandchildren and now 4 greats, she has always felt that the reason to make a house beautiful is for the people you love to enjoy it.... and I agree!!!!!...See MoreJoseph Corlett, LLC
