Comments (17)Slow, Great idea about the sconces, I will think on it. Actually I already had, but I don't dare tell or ask hubby @ this point to start changing things. You have to understand we just finished building our home. And I mean US! We built our home! With our own 4 hands. We did have a couple of friends and family help, when they could. But mostly US. From the gound UP! Every single inch of it. We paid for it out of pocket, and we built it and owe not one dime to anyone, @ this point. But it was a long 4 years and we still have lots to do. We have a beautiful home but we still have, landscaping, siding and lots of odds and ends, still undone. I guess that why I'm working so hard now to try and put our living areas in order. What I mean by order is a little more organized and together. A women===not necessarily a friend===told me last summer and I quote " Oh , Your style is so very rustic, sort of electic, but with a Classy Elegance" unquote....she thought she was offending me because she didn't like it!!! (not her style) Well-- the joke was on her because I just laughed!!! And said well DAMN girl you really get me!!(Can't stand the women) But she will never know that she was actually right!!! And I'm proud of it !!!! Anyway when I decide what I'm going to do I will need help I'm sure. And if it's OK I'd like to call on U?....Thanks much Slow, Cathy...See MoreGlass shelves from where?
Comments (18)Even our ReStore, which has up-to-date items like every color cultured marble vanity known to man, has lots of glass shelves hanging around. The caveat is whether or not they're tempered which is probably not worth the risk unless they're actually marked or something. Also, check out Ikea. The Rationell Glass Shelf is tempered and comes in several sizes and is $16 per two-pack for the 24x12 cab size. The actual shelf dimension for this size cab are listed as Width: 22 3/8 " Depth: 11 1/2 " Thickness: 1/4 ". Miraculously, you can even buy these online and have them shipped to you! Now, the unbreakable little stainless steel jars that I want for my bathroom? Nah, *those* they don't ship... Anyway, perhaps standard/European sizes are not good options for your custom furniture though. good luck!...See MoreSolid wood or a mix of glass and open shelving for upper cabinets?
Comments (13)We're twins. I'm going through the same thought process myself. First, I found this blogger's thoughts on open shelving to be thorough and helpful: http://dans-le-townhouse.blogspot.com/2014/12/honest-thoughts-on-open-shelving-in.html Second, here are pictures of my old kitchen (inset cabinets) and old living room (traditional overlay cabinets). Notice that on my white cabinetry, glass cabinets actually were the DARKEST thing in the room, not light and airy like I'd imagined. I stored either bright white or clear things in the kitchen shelves and black electronics in the living room shelves. For this reason I'm considering textured glass, which reflects a lot more light back into the room. (I'm also considering solid wood or wood with the bottom shelf open, but I'll make my own post about that when I start having anxiety attacks about the indecision). I know you can light cabinets, but I want my cabinets to make me smile first thing in the morning, before I've turned on the lights. ;)...See MoreGlass cabinet fronts and non-matching shelves?
Comments (24)As this is something that came up for me this week, I'll add this question because it might be something you want to consider. If you are planning to light the cabinet to showcase your pieces, wouldn't you want glass shelves so the light illuminates all the items? I live in earthquake country, so I'm still on the fence about glass shelves and my precious pieces. Isn't it amazing how one question during the design and installation process just leads to another? :-)...See MoreCheryl Hewitt
