Kitchen cabinet color ? Kitchen remodel.
Can't decide on cabinet color. We want a stained wood, not painted. New island can be same or contrasting color. The trim in our home is a fruit wood stain. We will put in a lighter color granite on counters and island. I was thinking of cherry wood color cabs and grey island? Any ideas, photos are welcome. Thanks.

Comments (8)The wood is Cherry and yes we designed the hood. We used a cabinetry company that buys the doors from Walzcraft- Shaker doors with a trim inside. He constructs all the cabinets in his shop. All the trim detail is possible because it was custom. The stain was Cherry Cinnamon. The island has the same shaker doors without the trim with Black paint and a black glaze on island. If you did your cabinets in black like that, you could do any color of laminate flooring you like, and it would look great with the cabs and countertops. You would have tons of color options for backsplash too - hopefully you could find something that is inexpensive! If you wanted to keep the cabinets the same, I think it would be fine - I personally would chose a much darker floor color (make sure it compliments the cabs though) and hardware. Then maybe a backsplash that brings some color, ties into the darker floor, and the light countertops.. If you're really handy you could raise the cabinets to the ceiling and add a shelf/cubby type compartment underneath. I personally really like the look of cabinets all the way to the ceiling. Comments (15)These are some great ideas ... to be clear, I can paint the cabinets no problem (have experience and appropriate equipment), but I have resisted over the past couple of years because we had higher priority things to get done in the house. We're getting past those now, so have time to go back and tweek. I like idea of crown on the uppers. Removing the cab over the sink is problematic ...it has an LED under it that is really important to the sink function ... will have to look and see if I can pull it, route the wiring into the ceiling and then back down into another dangly fixture that could match whatever ends up being over the island? Funny thing ... taking photos and then studying them actually helps ME! The fan is ugly ... but it is a wonderful thing ...maybe paint it white to match ceiling? (we did this to two fans in this house and two in another ...makes them sort of disappear). We replaced two in another house with dark brown ones to hook up with the dark woodwork ... it looks good, too. We'll look at replacing the glass on the two dangly lights ...it does need some contrast from the white ... since they don't do much, anyway, perhaps industrial stainless, dark gray, red or black?...See Morekitchen remodel; cabinet color and cabinet color and backsplash help

3 years agoI see you have been receiving suggestions not to do cherry cabinets and I would have to agree but sometimes you have reasons beyond the obvious to want something against all odds. So here goes. I would suggest not cherry but doing a maple or alder wood with a pale natural finish. These two woods are naturally pale. Then have a glaze put on, that will pull in your trim color. (I would paint all the trim white in a heartbeat) That would be a way of modernizing and lightening up at the same time. I would also do away with the wood 1/2 wall around the island, you do not need any separation to the eating area, and do a warm taupe paint finish that would pick up on the cabinet stain on the island. Then do a light quartz counter. This will bring in the white without having painted cabinets.
