washer and dryer - something simple, attractive, not overpriced??
Comments (4)Thank you for the excellent advice and the kindness to take the time to answer. I will look into all of these. Went to HD, Lowes, and Sears yesterday to look around. Sears had the best deals right now. Found that the topload Bravos that I had heard such good things about was $$$. Sears had some LGs on sale but still not cheap and doesnt take into account the costs of the pedastals. Cant see gettting on my hands and knees to do laundry so would need those. I am also looking on Craigslist and other sites. I have found some used that look nice - LG, Kenmores, and one Samsung dryer. Found a Miele set that is nice and looks like a good deal, but it is white, of course. My husband wants me to buy new but I am thinking I can get a decent machine used at a better price. I will take a look at the ones you guys mentioned here also. Thank you again!...See MoreCottage Bliss--What Makes A House A Cottage
Comments (14)Another feature from HOUZZ is the link below. I see several ideas in the gallery they put up, of interest to those of us with smaller bathrooms. I can see a couple of things I might use. The stool to lay my things on...already have such a stool, so no cost. The train rack for towels, could not figure where to mount it, now realize of COURSE it will fit above the toilet in DH's first floor bath up north. I also like the folding tray for toiletries, but probably will opt for the plain tall storage towers but use baskets in the shelves. To make sure that works out, I better find the baskets before building the towers, don't you think? Don't want to paint myself into a corner. And using a vintage plate/saucer for soap or whatever, I have the perfect plate for that, as I'm sure you have too. Hope the link works. It looks very strange. But check out the photos, they are inspiring. Comments (3)I am way bad jealous- a beach cottage *&* the chance to start almost from scratch! I love that stacked stone! It seems to me that stone (other than the enormous sliced boulders that people use when they think their home really is their castle) is like water; it adapts to & reflects its environment. If you use that stone in a cottage, it'll look like it belongs in a cottage. my thought, your decision. I generally like warm colors in a home, but for a beach cottage, especially a small one, grays & blue-grays & slate are very "beachlike" in feel. Pale sand would be a warm color that would work well, & you can find vinyl flooring that has both blue/gray & warmer sandy tones. I generally like wood-stained cabinets, but in a small beach cottage, off-white would work really well with humidity & water, & it would open/enlarge the space. Since hubs loves that paneling, maybe you could keep one wall & paint the rest; when he sees how much the paint enlarges the room, he may change his mind, & if he doesn't, well, he's happy, & that's excellent. If the paneling is "real", maybe you can lighten it a bit. Best luck, & have fun!...See MoreHow to make home elevation more attractive ?
Comments (45)It looks like a generic tract home in a builder neighborhood similar to where we used to live. I would accept it for what it is and not spend too much on the house. The only things I'd do would be to upgrade the front door and mailbox, edge the walkway and driveway with bricks to match the house, plant a tree and fill out the shrubbery. Hang seasonal wreaths on your new front door and maybe add some urns with decorative plants on either side of the porch. Eventually I might replace the cheap builder grade lanterns with nicer and larger ones. Anything else is honestly overkill for that house and neighborhood. As for replacing the brick with siding I wouldn't do that because it will make your house worth less. I hate houses with brick on just front but in a neighborhood with brick fronts it will make your house stand out not in a good way because buyers will expect the brick....See Moredecoenthusiaste
