Suggestions for a Lavender/Purple climbing rose bush
Comments (12)A couple of other suggestions: Purple Skyliner is a great rose, very very prolific bloomer, and I think the big clusters of small-ish purple flowers would be lovely with a large-flowered purple clematis. Perennial blue is also beautiful, but for me basically a once-bloomer. I am excited about Quicksilver; have it on order. I also have Climbing Angel Face, but here in zone 6 it needs protection (it does BS, too). For me, Stormy Weather and Night Owl have not really developed into climbers yet, though they may do so more quickly for you in a warmer zone. I like Christopher's suggestion of a yellow; I would add a suggestion for my personal favorite combo - a pink climber with a purple clematis! The only difficulty here is that if you want them to bloom together, you have to choose carefully: I find that a lot of my clematis come into bloom after the main rose flush. There are of course endless beautiful pink climbers to choose from, so I won't even go into varieties! Whatever you decide, best of luck! I'm sure whatever you choose will be gorgeous!...See MoreLooking for Lavender (that's actually lavender...)
Comments (20)This is my best Blue Bajou flower so far - I'm actually not sure that it's a bluer shade of lavender than Blue Moon or Bering Renaissance. I seem to recall one member here saying that it needs the cooler autumn temperatures (or perhaps the slightly more acidic and wet autumn soil) to appear bluish. Or perhaps the more bluish pictures I've seen of it are simply a matter of it being photographed under more shaded lighting conditions. But for a rose that doesn't carry the gene for the blue plant pigment delphinidin (only the genetically engineered rose Applause does this, I believe), Blue Bajou still looks too blue to be filed under pink, IMO....See MoreTell me about Kordes Quick Silver pls
Comments (21)Thank you for the info Chris! The downside of urban living - I wouldn’t be able to have roses if I can't grow them in containers and I can’t have that! The plan is to get the biggest containers I can and diligently baby them - the hardest part will be hauling soil up 4 flights of stairs. I will have drip irrigation set up and will have to monitor as the roof gets very hot in the summer. NYC winters aren’t so bad, the lowest it will dip are the teens, and it generally doesn’t stay that cold for long, 20s-30s is the norm. As I type this snow is falling, so maybe I should stop jinxing myself and pray spring arrives soon....See MoreQuick Silver's vs. Violet's Pride's bloom...and the winner is?
Comments (34)It seems like Quick Silver, Violet's Pride, and Love Song are rapidly becoming a formidable trio of lavender roses: "The Three Musketeers, The Pale Purple Crusaders, The Regalia of Nostalgia." The more lavender roses the better, especially when you get older and find yourself becoming increasingly sentimental. The color lavender glows next to any other color, except perhaps orange, maybe that contrast works, too. Thank you everyone, for all your input. I'm sold on all thee lavenders. It seems Quick Silver and Love Song have the best formed and colored blooms, while Violet's Pride is the most fragrant and more pink hued of the three. I suspect the bush form of Love Song noted by Texas Ben is the most impressive/rose bed centered of the three. The photos that Texas Ben and Diane (thank you for them), provided, give me weak-knees! Lavender roses have surely come a long way since Angel Face. Moses...See Morebayarea_girl_z10a_ca
