Great questions. There will be a 42” flatscreen either mounted or on a natural gray bookshelf. (If the TV doesn’t go on it I thought this might look nice under the large window.) I also have a light neutral white mid-century couch. I work from home and may try using a flip-up table that can double as an end table in lieu of a desk.

Tough space to work with. Do you know how wide the living room is from side to side? I don’t think the best spot for TV is under the big window. I think it should go on either side wall. Need measurements to determine if the space is wide enough for furniture you are describing. I would definitely place TV on low longer TV console. If you can post room measurements, I can do a scale space plan/layout for you. I will check back later.

Thanks, Flo! I really appreciate all your help. The living area is roughly 126x166”. If the front door is open, the space from the right edge to the door frame is 59” (which is why that wall is one option for a 42” TV even though thar placement seems a little odd.) The bookshelf is 47x26” and to clarify, I meant that if I mounted the TV I could place this piece under the large window.

Here is Option 1 - I made an assumption about size of sofa, so once you post exact measurements, I can revise. Hoping it is shorter than 84". I put the bookcase under the TV. I assumed the TV could either sit on top of the bookcase or mount on wall, but don't mount too high. Keep it no more than 6" above top of bookcase. Your TV should be at eye level when sitting on the sofa. I put a small accent chair on the end near the door, leaving sufficient space for door to swing open. This chair has to be 28"x28" or less. I put two small stools to act as a coffee table. You could use a bench and put a tray on it too. Then when you need more seating, swing it across the end of the room for extra seating. The room is too narrow to put the sofa across the room unless it is a condo size sofa? I put the wall mounted drop leaf next to other end of sofa. BUT, if this could go in the kitchen it would help ease the space needs in the living space.

You asked about the floor color and how to help it tone down. You can only use a rug about 9'x6' due to the need to keep a "walkway" from front door through the space. I wouldn't normally put a TV where people will walk in front of it, but unless your sofa is 60" long, this is only option for TV. We like walkways to be a minimum of 2'-8" preferably 3' but your room width is such that you might have to walk "skinny" through the room. lol I put a small round end table on the end of the sofa, but you could also put a floor lamp in that corner because you won't have much ambient light in the room from just the light kit on the ceiling fan. You might be able to use something like this in the corner. Each item in small spaces should be multi-use. This would provide light and a place to set a cup or glass from sofa or chair possibly.

Right in line with what I was thinking though I thought about switching the drop table with the accent chair but realize that would obstruct entrance to the kitchen. My couch is 80x37” so a little wiggle room on the left side. Please let me know if you have any other suggestions on layout or colors.

These might not suit your style needs, but they are "concepts" to help you develop a "multi-purpose" mentality. Think "tiny house".

OK, great. The bookcase I show in the drawing with TV is just about right size. And the sofa is 84x36 so close as well. You will have 4" more length open. Might help if your drop leaf has to be mounted on a wall.

A two tone rug in grays is a nice combo with white sofa and then you can add some art over sofa in fav colors. Bright cobalt or yellows. Find art first then get rug to work with it. I think you can make this really cute. I will look for some art.

With your white sofa, and some other wood elements, you could build around this color. Just depends on what you like best. What's your favorite color?
