Going dormant pictures (So.Cal-12/12/06)
Comments (13)Karen- First I find that a plant that blooms will split into 2-4 new branches which may or may not bloom next year. I frankly have not paid that much attention to which branches bloom and which do not each year, but I find the thought interesting. I prune to shape and control. If the Cerise and the Intense Rainbow are growing into each others space, I prune to create the boundries. Since I have about 25 large plants in hedges along my property line, I need to settle boundry disputes among plants. Some plants I prune growth outward to allow clear walkways and force the plants upwards. Some pruning is just to allow more plants to occupy close quarters. I soon will need to learn more from Bud Guillott who is the master of pruning; He has 15 year old plants that are 4" in diameter but just 6' tall because he prunes to keep his flowers near the ground and to control overall plant width growth. Since a pruned branch will not flower until 2 years, he staggers his pruning so he always has some branches flowering each year. As your plants mature, you find that you have more and more cutings from pruning. This year I started 167 cut branches which many I gave to schools, civic gardens or to friends. Hope that makes sense. Bill Karyn- I wanted to share a pic of "C" dog who is filling the space left by "T" Chelsea is a fantastic dog as far as markings and disposition. She is a real kid pleaser and does not mess with the plumies- smart! Bill...See More12' or 24' Grill on 48' Bluestar Cooktop?
Comments (12)We have 48inch rangetop. It is configured with a 24 inch grill, 3-22K burners and 1-simmer burner. The grilling surface is 17.7" x 18.5". I replaced a commercial charbroiler and commercial 30,000btu burners with this setup. The Bluestar burners are every bit a match for the commercial units and the grill is close. I am very pleased with the result. I use the grill several times per week. Sometimes just for part of the meal, such as grilled meat/fish/poultry and stir fried vegetables. Grilled vegetables are also great, but they take up a lot grill space. A selection of vegetables, some potatoes and sausage will fill the grill. The 12 inch grill is way too small for the way I like to use a grill. The 24 inch grill is really two 12 inch grills side by side. You can only use one side if that is all you need or run one side hotter than the other. Occasionally I need more than four burners. In those cases I use the grill as an extra burner. If you go with a grill, especially a 24 inch one, there are two issues. The first is that you will need really good ventilation and second you have to accept the fact that it will never be really clean....See MoreWWYD and why: 36 & 12, 2-24's or 18 & 30" stacks
Comments (18)illini - thanks, I am very excited about the dish hutch. It's directly across from the DW and I think it will work out great for that, setting the table, and it should keep everyone out of my cooking zone, etc.. deedles - I know I know, a crazy 'problem' to ponder! I am feeling like I have way too much space and will have empty drawers. But surely once we get in there they will fill up. I will have much more space than I have ever had. My one 4 drawer is on the island so not next to any other drawer stack and yes I think it might bug me if they were right next to each other. romy-thanks. I do like the look of it too. But I keep thinking what about the function. I will check kksmama's drawers (lol) - thanks for the tip. I think I have forgotten about other things I had stashed away in the basement because it didn't fit, cookie cutters, less used baking items and holiday stuff. That will all fit now. :) sherri-I think I might look at aftermarket dividers, that's a great idea. Foils, wraps and baggies I was planning for the 4 drawer stack - but they could go in my other 33" by the fridge too. So if I keep 36/12, it sounds like most of you would keep it a door (like mpagmom) and not a pull out? I'm not even sure they have any new fangled thing on a 12" pull out. They aren't cutting edge on drawer inserts, etc.....See More24 x 24 shower wall tile? Will it look good?
Comments (20)Found this thread and wondering what people think of my potential use of large format. I originally wanted 12x24 but they won't be getting anymore of the tile I love, but they have 24x24 polished ceramic rectified so I grabbed that. My one shower wall is concerning to me. The wet wall will be 35" wide. I am torn between two tile layout options: 1. Cut each tile to 17.5" and put the grout line right down the middle of the wall so it's symmetrical. 2. Cut the tiles and put the grout line so that the grout line is exactly in between the wall and where the glass shower door will be. So when you're in the shower, it looks symmetrical. The tile with the shower door on it will likely be 1"-2" wider as the shower panel will be about 1"-2" in from the corner of the wall....See Moreshashank rallapalli
