Kitchens Design Dilemma

New Quay or Bellingham??

Hi! long time reader, first time agonizer here!

We are renovating our kitchen and have oak floors and white cabinets. We are torn between using New Quay or Bellingham. If we do the Bellingham, I was going to use Newport along the perimeter and only put the Bellingham on our large island (103×40.5"). Thoughts??? Pro/Cons for anyone who has these??

Post photos of your actual floors and cabinets. I would not use New Quay or Bellingham which both have a LOT of variation. Oak floors generally do as well. And definitely don't do two different countertops. Newport might work for all the countertops, but you need to check the color in your space.

calidesign, do you mean variance in the slab or between slabs?

Good Morning bogturtle, Thank you so much. I have looked at the site and they certainly do list the most WHs. I've made a longish list from that and other sites and am trying to narrow down the possibilities. Will post what I've got on the original string later today. I've never stumped "Name That Plant" before!

I've never lived anywhere with so many micro-climates! I'm originally from Los Angeles and 10 seemed standard for large areas even with temperature shifts. I've found that the "Bellingham" temperatures you get with the Weather Channel and other on-line sources are usually taken at the Bellingham airport, and where I am off Mt. Baker Hwy. is almost always a few degrees hotter or colder than that which certainly makes a huge difference in bloom times. And a friend who is a spectacular gardener living in Ferndale (where those Frazier River winds REALLY roar down with a vengeance) just told me that she sticks with plants that are hardy to USDA 5! I guess the best thing to do is to talk with local nurseries (VERY local) and don't buy anything that seems borderline if you're not prepared for it to die.

I think they have similar colors, but the patterns in the AW granite seem to be more "chunky" whereas the Bellingham seems to be more "fluid". If they are on the same floor/near each other, I think they will be a nice compliment to each other. I wouldn't have them in the same space at all-like island of one and perimeter counters of the other in a kitchen-that would look odd. But for a kitchen and then a bath, I think they are totally fine. I was actually just thinking of going to look at the Cambria stuff today. I feel like I need a backup if the Fusion doesn't work out, and I really like the finished product of the Cambria I've seen.

I've seen it on dark and on white cabinets, so I think it will go fine in a kitchen that has both. Remember, you need to go see the actual slab that will be put in your home before purchasing because there can be color variations between slabs. Bring along your cabinet doors with you to make sure you like how they look together. The flooring you have has some pattern in it, so with that stone too make sure you select a very simple backsplash. Otherwise you'll have a busy design. It looks good though! Good luck.

It is impossible to offer advice by looking at these pictures. Can you post pictures of your actual floors and cabinets? No matter what you choose, I'd use the same countertop throughout your entire space.

Cambria is a man made material, so the variation I was referring to is in the material itself. High contrast between light and dark with a very busy design.

Here are pictures of our flooring and cabinet that will be installed. I also included pictures of the samples of new quay and bellingham/newport we brought home.

Your floors have a lot of variation. I would look for an option that is either a solid color or has a very small pattern, like Cardiff Cream. It needs to have enough contrast to your cabinets to look intentional.
