If you want it warm and as soft as possible, why not look at a cork floating floor? It will be 3-5 times warmer and 5 times SOFTER than LVP. Both floors will require a vapour barrier so they are even in that regard. And LVP does NOT LIKE under "pad". LVP is NOT like laminate. You CANNOT "throw down" underpad willy-nilly. The vinyl flooring just doesn't work that way. Many, many, many people have been horribly disappointed to find out that they LVP they PURCHASED does NOT allow under pad. Soooooo many people had planned on using laminate underpad to give more warmth and more cushion. They were STEAMING MAD to find out their plans wouldn't work. A cork floating floor will do EVERYTHING you want it to do...for the same price. And in Canada, I've seen cork floors increase the temperature in the basement by 7 F. If you add cork UNDERLAY to a cork floor = 12 F INCREASE in temperature in the basement! All for the price of a floor + underpad.

You MUST HAVE a vapour barrier installed over the concrete. All floating floors have this requirement. Vinyl is NOT to be used as protection from moisture migration UP! You can purchase 6mil vapour barrier + moisture resistant tape (aka Red Duct Tape) for the seams. Should cost about $0.12/sf for the space. And NO....you CANNOT use another "underpad" under that vinyl. You can ONLY USE polypropylene plastic sheeting. Vinyl does NOT like padding underneath. You must work with something thin WITHOUT padding or cushion. Go cheap and cheerful. The 6mil vapour barrier (as above) is considered "Best Practices" in the flooring industry. No need to reinvent the wheel.

Laminate Pros: It can accept acoustic/thermal underpadding like 6mm cork. It still requires flat and level...but nothing weird. The laminate always needs a moisture barrier. By adding an acoustic/thermal underpad (like 6mm cork) the room can warm up and stay as quiet as possible with a rigid floor over top. Vinyl Cons: It does NOT accept underpad. Only 3-4% of vinyl plank products accept thermal or acoustic underpadding. That means you have to run the vinyl straight down on the concrete (vapour barrier being a super thin sheet of plastic = doesn't count). The only way to remove the 'cold' feeling from the feet/room is to use something like DriCore floating subfloor system (adds $1.67/sf for materials...install labout = $1.50/sf). For a basement, vinyl works great. For a suit it works great. It isn't the best at temperature control nor is it very good with noise. It is *almost like living on concrete. For a rental suite.

I am looking for luxury plank vinyl floors to finish my basement. Does anyone have experience with tilebars line of LVP optoro. I am looking at Shaw and Coretec but see that tilebar has a new line of vinyl planks at a good price. I appreciate opinions about any of these brands. Thanks Houzz people! Tilebar optoro
