Design Dilemma Home Decorating Windows

looking for ideas for window treatments

Need shades for sun block in my remodeled kitchen/sitting room. I have new millwork and don’t want to cover this up. The pics below show the almost done kitchen and windows in sitting area.

The taped off wall is an entrance to a 22’x22’ living room addition. That room will have the same wood flooring, paint, and millwork. The big opening over the kitchen sink will be a pass through to that same room. I’ll also need treatments for the casement windows in the addition.

In the new room, I can do anything as the window inset is 5 inches, but the bank of windows in the kitchen/sitting area have only an inch and a half inset I can use. Any ideas are welcome!

Your home and furnishings are beautiful. What about solar shades with curtains?

Look at Houzz photos "roman shades on bay windows" and you will see a bounty of delightful window treatments for bay windows. It is assumed the space is a main living area, so the formality or casualness of fabric for romans would depend on the planned furnishings and décor for the room. Is this helpful?

If Silhouettes are too pricey or you need to be able to wash the window coverings easily, look at textured sheer curtains, shirred at 2.5-3x fullness. Textured sheers don't show pulls from cat claws or dog chewing as readily as plain weave, if that's a concern.

If you use a curved rod as shown above, you need to mount it at the top of the alcove, or halfway between that and the top of the windows. Measure to see what works. You could also use a straight rod on the flat part of the wall, above the alcove and all the way to the ends of that wall. Look for linen that matches your wall color. Another option is removing your blinds and using woven wood roman shades which would give you some texture and a more casual feel.

Thanks...trying to avoid drapes (have a bit of a mental block), but how do solar shades work and can they work alone?
