Does anyone have long term care insurance?
Comments (8)I got it a couple years ago - I'm 54 now. It was offered through Prudential with an open enrollment through my employer. Employer does not pay for it but I took advantage of the open enrollment as I don't know that I'd qualify otherwise. It's a decent plan though not over the top - currently about $900 per year. Both DH and I did a lot to help our parents in their later years and since we have no kids there will be none of that if we live to be old. We'll be paying for help. DH's mother was in a nursing home for 11 years after suffering several mini strokes and his grandmother was in for 20 years after suffering a massive stroke. My grandmother was also in for many years. I hope I never end up there but if I do I'd like to somehow be able to pay for it myself and not end up being covered by taxpayers. My FIL paid for MIL - had LTC insurance for the first few years then self funded. I admired their ability to do that and would hope to be able to do the same....See MoreDoes anyone have Pet Insurance?
Comments (12)We have VPI for our two feline boys - and what a great investment is. We started their insurance in 2001 and pay a pretty penny for what can seem like no return (unlike humans who seem to use insurance more) but when disaster strikes it is nice to know that we have a cushion. On the Friday night of Memorial Day weekend (US holiday) one of our boys was sick as all get out and was having litter box problems. He'd had urinary blockage problems as a young cat and we were so afraid that was the problem. We called his regular vet (answering service forwards emergency calls to her) and she didn't call back right away (10 minutes) so I called the ER vet and let them know we were coming. There is no time to waste with a cat in urinary distress. Long story short... he was constipated! To the tune of 500+ Insurance will cover 2/3s... Nice to have since I am out of work. Our other fur-son is diabetic and that gets expensive quickly. We are reimbursed a small amount over the year - but every bit helps. I really like knowing that we have SOME coverage. Most years it is a loss (financially) but it is ALWAYS a gain (peace of mind)....See MoreThe insurance company vs the drug company -- a saga
Comments (3)Teri2, I think that they call it, "business", don't they? And, with many companies buying up or squeezing out the opposition, the concentration of many businesses enables them to pretty well do as they please. Considering that it costs so much to run a political campaign - and guess who pay for them? - many of them have friends in high places. But - each individual has one vote, and many citizens are getting rather fed up with the big shots' ways. One day there'll be a reckoning. Visit your politicians' meetings. Ask embarrassing questions - and have backup for your side so that the politicians' pals can't shut you down. "The price of freedom is eternal vigilance", said one of your country's founders - Patrick Henry, wasn't it? Good wishes to you all as you insist on preserving your freedom - commercial as well as political. joyful guy/Ed (Canadian - and we have corporate concentration problems, as well, plus many major businesses owned extraterritorially)...See MoreHave you used a "specialty drycleaner"
Comments (21)Thanks, everyone. I think I will look around and ask around for a specialty cleaner, since it seems some of you do feel it makes a difference. I haven't called the seller, since their site and the item say Dry Clean Only, I cannot imagine they would court the liability of advising differently. Eld, I have looked online and it is no longer available for order. Then I went to the mfr website and looked for a retailer near me. There was a store that carried the line in NYC, but it was a boutique that closed a few months ago. I've not been able to find another one....See Moresktn77a
