And I AM friends with a great electrician, but he hasn’t installed any of the lights in the living room yet. Nor has he finished installing all of the kitchen lights. Plus, I took this picture in the middle of the night last night so it looks much darker than it actually is in there. Thanks for your thoughtful input though. Patricia, it looks like flooring because it is flooring! I couldn’t find any “ceiling” boards that I liked or were wide enough, so we got creative. It’s acacia wood and it looks beautiful. I just wanted help with a trim piece, not redesigning/deconstructing my room!

Hi,The attic has been a livable bedroom when I bought the house what I wanted to do to create the illusion of more space was to expose the historic rafters and make a knee wall (HVAC on left side) and run sheet rock between them and keep the beams exposed and also vault the ceiling.There are 2 gable vents at either of the roof and no soffit vents just blown in insulation. I'm planning to put blocks in to keep 1 inch between the roof deck and the foam board for air flow then put in foam board insulation on top before sheetrock.Since there are going to be two slim recessed lighting going in there will be a flat space at the topm..... so to vent can I run a PVC pipe end to end with holes or move the vents up?Are they necessary if I add soffit vents?PS. I have a family room with a lot of natural light and vaulted ceilings. I am (likely) painting the walls BM Solitude (a blue tone). For the ceiling, my husband wants white but my designer suggested a lighter/softer color so we do not have a huge expanse of white on the large ceiling. So, I will likely paint the ceiling BM Horizon (a subtle blue gray). Has anyone done something like this? I would love to see photos! Thanks!

No blue on the brick. No brass. Don't paint the beams! Ignore the angled ceilings. They are what they are. You cannot change them. Ceiling fan or chandelier, not both. Earth tones in this room. See images below. Design the room don't be 'decorating'. That's for amateurs! Want to know what Joanna Gaines would do? Well for starters she wouldn't do any navy blue on the brick! This is a rustic house. Consider black or bronze accents not polished brass. Take some lessons from this room.
