Thanks cp, I value your opinion and have gained much wisdom from reading your posts over the years! Keeping the backsplash was a vision that neither friends nor family shared lol, but it is a much lauded choice now ;)

I am giving myself a year to see if I want an island or a custom table! I bought additional hardware, so I could accommodate an island or change up pulls to double finger pulls in select places.

I love how the cabinets look different depending on how the light hits them, at least in the photos. Must be just as nice in person.

The tile as counter AND backsplash was a bit...70s, but as just the backsplash it becomes a star.

Great use of glass! It’s nice to have it all in one door, it seems like it’d be easier to use the things in the top shelf, if only psychologically. (Cute pig in the corner)

Thank you so much, bpath, for your kind and thoughtful comments :) Yes, the wood looks warmer or cooler depending on the light :) Both counter and backsplash in the tile were overwhelming lol, you needed countertop clutter to break it all up lol. The old cabs were positioned and sized so dysfunctionally! I wasn’t sure if I would like a one piece cab front, but I actually do. I Ihave room for taller items now, depending on shelf setting. The glass of course requires some decorative storage solutions because it is clear! I considered frosted or seeded glass instead of clear, but I thought I would be able to make decor changes easier by updating what is behind clear glass. I had seen someone use mirrors instead of glass insets, and I liked that idea, but the kitchen does have a lot going on as it is. Right now, I don’t need the very top shelving for storage. The pig is a sentimental piece :)

Re the fridge, I have read of so many problems ppl have had with ice production which originates in the fridge instead of the freezer, a feature of this fridge. So fingers crossed for durability and reliability! We like the flexibility of the fridge or freezer bottom door. I thought seriously about a fridge column, because we do have a chest freezer elsewhere, but it is nice to have access to some freezer items in the kitchen.

We had a lot of conversation about keeping the footprint, or having a breakout moment haha! however the room has some non negotiable for us features not depicted here, such as a fireplace, so we kept true to the L shape. I wanted two ovens, so went with the range, still have a wall oven and plenty of storage space!

I love this so much. It’s fantastic that you kept that backsplash! It looks like such a warm, comfortable kitchen.

Something that might help my fellow lurkers lol, is how we arrived at the flooring decision. We have the yummiest site finished hickory throughout the main level. I baby that floor because it is so beautiful. For the kitchen, I did not want a such a precious floor. The site finished hickory is not fragile per se, but I wanted a kitchen floor that I would feel okay about wet shoes walking on, that could accommodate dog food spills, any errant cooking mishaps, without heroics to clean. For some people, hardwood fits that bill but I am not made that way! Most people said oh bring the hickory into the kitchen, but not a person who said that was someone who would be cleaning it!! Our layout is not a great room style, but it does open to the dining room and you can enter from the living area as well as through a door to the outside.

It was hard to find the type of ‘fake wood’ floor I envisioned, as everything seems SO rustic to me. And, we knew that whatever we chose could not be so busy as to compete with the q sawn oak and backsplash. The flooring also had to be harmonious, but not try to match, the yummy hickory. I must have had 40 samples from big box stores and on line vendors. The Glendale Pine was a whim, we bought a box just as I was thinking I would have to give up my dream of a low maintenance kitchen floor. I think it makes a great supporting cast for the rest of the kitchen and could not be happier with the lifestyle aspect.

Point of this long winded story, I feel that I was true to my needs in choosing the floor, and I am happy. And while those that would chose continuing the hickory would not be wrong, that would have been wrong for me. What does Marie Kondo say about joy, right???!

F, thank you so much!!! I have always wanted marble and I wanted a simple edge, having had Bull nose edge with granite in the past and hated it. Arizona Tile has several locations, and we are not in Phoenix, so if you are in Phoenix I am not sure I can help. I can tell you that AZ tile has an on line slab yard where you can view their stock on line at some of their different locations. It is quite fascinating to see the inventory!
