Thirty Hours I Wish I'd Missed
Comments (14)Sheila, what a blessing. I just lost a friend this winter to a brain aneurysm. She was fine one moment and then not fine. Exactly a year ago another friend of mine had an aneurysm fixed near his heart (aortic aneurysm I think). It was an amazing feat. I'm still amazed that they found it and could fix it. Just tonight they were telling me me that they celebrated his one year "life day". The CT scans are fun, aren't they? Just tonight (with a different friend), we were discussing the "you will feel a little warm" side effect of the CT contrast. :) Still, I'd take a CT over an MRI any day of the week. I'm glad your diagnosis is so positive. :) Lisa...See MoreI Wish I'd Never Seen This Book
Comments (5)I have about a dozen varieties but all except some of my adeniums are still pretty small. I hope they will one day look like the pics in that book. My problem is that after seeing some of the photos I will begin an obsessive search for more varieties. My kids don't need the money we've put aside for college, do they? lol...See MoreI'd Never Thought I'd See the Day...
Comments (13)I have had the same thing happen with two Hoyas. Both my Hoya archboldiana and obscura did almost nothing and were not what I would describe as healthy plants. I ended up cutting the top from the small plants and rooting them. So far so good as both plants are growing well now and the archboldiana has produced and retained it's first set of leaves since i got it last spring. If at first you don't succeed try try again LOL. Comments (51)I am curious about how the actual flow rate was measured. Typically, a door opening is utilized as an instrumented flow path. At the door, one could measure by the pressure drop through a calibrated venturi, but in that case there would be a pressure drop and not only would that cut the actual flow rate of the hood, but there would be some house leakage not measured. Alternatively, if there were also a fan in the path keeping the house pressure at zero to the outside, while also measuring the flow through the fan (by whatever means), then the flow rate measured should be the static value for the entire hood system. Of course, without the test fan providing zero differential, the actual flow will be less depending on where the MUA is sourced. No magic is involved. kas Correction: In an early message above, I asserted: "A fan at the hood can more easily overcome flow resistance between the hood and the outdoors, but normally this resistance is small, a few tenths of an inch w.g., so attic and roof mount fans work fine when properly sized." I now doubt that it matters much whether the restriction is before or after the fan, as most fans have fan curves that are based on total pressure drop around the path and do not differentiate between pushing and pulling. Differences could result from turbulence interacting with structures on one side or the other of the fan, and in such cases the actual flow might differ slightly for the same fan. I don't know how VAH squirrel-cage blowers might behave in this respect....See MoreSara Malone Zone 9b
