4x12 white subway ... what's your floor?
Comments (6)Our house is still under construction; we're supposed to close the end of May. It's scary making all the finish choices and then having to wait to see everything! The floor tiles are from Emser tile. I originally wanted marble but fell in love with the Silver Travertine since it is so unusual and had both the grey tones as well as the sand tones (to match our carpet on the second fllor). I liked the honed and filled tiles better because they weren't so rustic and I prefer a smooth finish. You should definitely look at the Silver Travertine; it's even more beautiful in person! Another option for accent tile with white subway is a row of glass and marble mosaic, which is what we did in the kitchen for the backsplash (and the same tile will be the around the fireplace; we have a white mantel and surround). I would probably have done this in the master bath, too, if I had gone with marble floors tile or the marble/grey basketweave tile I originally had in mind. (The same tile comes in ceramic as well and it isn't that expensive so you might want to consider it for your bathroom, too.) Accent tile (we did a 3" row since we used 3" x 6" subway for our backsplash): Basketweave tile we considered for the floor:...See MoreCost of Glazed Ceramic Tile (Heath, Pratt & Larson)...etc
Comments (65)dgormish, I did use P&L Motif for my kitchen backsplash. I thought I had some earlier photos, but didn't find them. Here's a recent photo. The watercolor field tile, W78, is an almond color. It looks grayish in this picture because of the natural light this time of year in Los Angeles - "June gloom." P&L uses a different color chart for their Motif tiles than for their watercolors, so it took some effort to find a good color match between the field tile and the Motif. I had planned to include a liner between the Motif tiles and the framing tiles, but tile installer said I didn't need it. When he did the installation, he said something didn't quite line up and that he needed to add a liner. He asked if I had extra material from my countertop. So, the extra liner around the framing is Mont Blanc quartzite, from a remnant of my countertop....See MoreAccent tiles in backsplash....or not?
Comments (51)ABB is all but backsplash. :) I guess technically we were not ABB since we still have flooring and paint but it felt like the backsplash was a big hold up for a long time! DH is pleased that the backsplash is done-so is our 15 year old! They both think it turned out really well. DH is going to make me a couple of trivets using that pretty accent tile I found but decided not to use on the backsplash so I will still get to look at it every day! Comments (52)Hi- This is Rebecca co-owner and designer of modwalls. Thank you for ordering samples from us. I agree that our latest dye lot of Lush 3x6 glass subway tile in Cloud is a bit on the green side. We will have a brighter white version of Cloud using clear glass in stock in Mid August. I would also suggest you consider a warm grey tone for your backsplash. We have our Lush tile in Fog Bank in a 1x2 small subway set with a classic offset joint on mesh sheets in stock. I have attached a photo of it installed in the Sunset Magazine Idea House last year with white cabinets. We will also have this color in stock in mid August in a 3x6 subway and a 1x4 skinny subway tile. If you can wait until then I'll be happy to get you free samples of these styles. Just email me at rebecca@modwalls.com I concur with many other comments here. Your stunning countertop should be your kitchen's focal point so I'd suggest either a white or warm gray backsplash tile.
