Pendant & Under Cabinet Lighting Questions
Comments (7)That may very well be the lighting solution I ultimately go with... but the fluorescent will have to do for now. As for mounting my fluorescent lights, they are either going to aim backwards towards the wall (lighting up the back splash and the counter) or aim forwards towards the kitchen and counter (but still lighting up the backsplash, but not as bright as aiming towards the wall). I guess I could always move them around if I don't like them... but who wants to do that :). I don't think a "middle" location would work for me since they are not aiming downward....See MoreKitchen Lighting Placement.
Comments (19)The cage light will have it's light more dispersed instead of having a shade around it and reflecting/directing the light down. Are you going to have upper cabinets? Otherwise the can lights (since they are placed over the aisles instead of where you will actually be working around the stove) you need direct light over the counter. Your head may cast a shadow from the can lights behind you while at prep or stove. For the island, a trick is to mock up the island size and hang balloons over it to determine size and placement. Good luck....See MoreOpen Kitchen Lighting and light placement suggestions

Comments (1)Given that you won't be looking up at the ceiling with any degree of regularity, the question is probably more what type of lighting you need to achieve a well-lighted space. A well-lighted space has plenty of natural light illuminating in the daytime and no dead spots when lights are turned on. A good lighting plan also has several different types of lighting including under-cabinetry lighting. Aesthetics also plays a role. If you have found a chandelier you like, then work that into the plan. Maybe someone else with more lighting experience will comment as to your recessed lighting question....See MoreK R
