What Style is This House?
Comments (5)Looks like it was deleted by the original poster. I guess the possibility of losing all of one's pithy and cogent comments is the risk you run when you respond on someone else's thread on Houzz. As a reminder to readers, here is the house from the missing thread (no floor plan found as yet): Designed by Paul Bates Architects, Birmingham, AL...See MoreWhat style is this house?
Comments (9)Thanks for info. How about continuing the slanted walls up to form full size pyramids? Would that give you the second story space you are looking for? Or you could duplicate the first story completely, stacking a second one on top of the first. With photoshop, it'd be possible to mock up both ideas to see if they are workable or laughable. Maybe celerygirl or groveraxle will see your post. You could take photos of the other three sides to add in the comments so you get more ideas from other people....See MoreWhat style is this home?
Comments (1)I'm pretty sure from your yard that you are NOT in Hawaii, but the architecture reminds me a lot of Hawaii plantation style homes. Full-width lanai, primary living area on the 2nd level to take advantage of the breezes. I have no idea what the style is called outside of Hawaii. https://www.google.com/search?q=hawaii+plantation+style+homes&rlz=1C1CHBF_enUS866US866&source=lnms&tbm=isch&sa=X&ved=2ahUKEwil_f-e9qjuAhWIJjQIHYOhAWEQ_AUoAXoECBgQAw&biw=1536&bih=722...See MoreWhat style is this house?
Comments (11)I think it's cute too. appears to be a post-war ranch home. What don't you like about it? Or do you just want some pizzazz? Here's what I'd tweak: I'd spruce up the landscaping a bit w/some color, and prune those trees that block that house. add some flowers or other color to the beds. porch swing. paint it, or do it in wood, add pillows, rope, the porch/ceiling. paint. I'd prob do something w/the garage door. All of these things I've photoshopped for you so you can get an idea if you like them. (there's a lot of pictures coming!) Here's a photoshop for you: Wood garage door, wood planters, I covered over some of the overgrown tree by the door, spruced up the flowerbeds. redo your swing so that you can see it. Same one, except I gave you cedar shutters and a lighter front door (what does your porch floor/deck look like?) Refurbish the swing a bit. if it's wood, stain it a darker tone. bring in some rope-chains, black/white pillows, some green plants/flowers You could also paint the garage door a darker color like this one. (And if a new roof is on the list, get this color) what do you think about a darker trim on the roof fascia? I didn't do the dark trim on this one, but use your imagination. gave you a darker garage door, cedar posts, a soft sage front door, window boxes. (along w/the flower beds) hope you can see all of this. the pale blue front door, soft charcoal on the garage door and shutters, take a look at the porch swing, pillows, and other accessories. Same one, but I gave you the cedar colored garage door I like either of these, especially the door. I might be tempted to paint the shutters a few shades darker than the greenish/blue front door. If you do the wood changes, those black shutters really stand out. here's a closer shot of a similar type of door and the wood posts same picture but I put in cedar shutters. You could switch the door to the white one, or keep the posts as white. It's a balancing act w/all the wood. If you tell me exactly what you like, and take a picture that I can enlarge a bit bigger, I can do a photoshop exactly to your specs! White Garage Door tweaks: Add some carriage hardware like this one. soft aqua front door, took out the shutters, (or paint them white or the same aqua to match the door color) cedar window boxes, some flowers in the flower bed. (you can order the Carriage Hardware on Amazon for about $40. Here's a close up of mine so you can see what it looks like. very easy to put on. get yourself some new address numbers too. black or silver would be nice. Whatever you do, can you paint the porch ceiling a soft blue? I like this door color w/the black shutters) Can you post a closer picture of the porch area? If you want some of these paint color names, let me now. Spruce up your porch by trying some of these ideas. The blue ceiling, paint your porch floor, paint the swing black/wood so that you can see it from the sidewalk. Is it possible to remove the shutters and just paint the trim around the window in black? I like the looks of it w/the aqua color Or if you really want to make a statement, Go with a bit more wood. That first wood garage door, and a wood beadboard ceiling, maybe some cedar posts just so you can see the wood posts and ceiling and what it looks like. more of beadboard in a darker walnut stain You might consider redoing your shutters in a cedar and match the stain color of the ceiling. or one like this all white swing, rope 'chains' white porch and a darker wood beadboard. do you like the soft pink front door? here, having fun playing w/the photoshop and diff color doors, posts White garage door, carriage hardware and a white arbor, added some pink flowers and a orchid color front door. Black garage door, black shutters/window box, pink door, you'd need to do something w/the swing so it stands out. this is a nice color option. cedar porch floor/ceiling, yellow door, and remove your shutters (or make them cedar)...See Morenhb22
