Yes the 220V is the way to go and I would recommend it.. The microwave is a microwave.

I think all microwaves are pretty much the same. Someone can correct me if that's not true. I don't think they cook well and we rarely use the microwave function except for popcorn or to melt butter. If you primarily use a microwave save yourself a lot of money and just buy a $100 microwave. The Advantium is an expensive piece of equipment and can do so much more. .

It serves as my second oven since I only have one wall oven. You can roast a chicken and it tastes like roasted chicken not microwave food. I make my own pizza and reheat the left overs

in the advantium which comes out great not soggy like the microwave. If you buy a lot of prepackaged foods, there are a lot of built in programs for them; ie fish sticks, chicken tenders etc. There is no preheating the oven so that's a time saver.

To use the speed cook function, you have to switch out the ceramic plate (used for microwave) to a metal plate. Someone on this forum found that to be way too much work???. If that's too much trouble for you or you have children that can't be trained to follow instructions, the Advantium is not for you.

It comes with a cook book which you can use to guide you on the various settings for your own recipes. It takes a bit of thought but not really difficult.

Whatever you do, don't get the 120V. they are not worth the money and don't function very well.

Inga, thanks for the great reply. I went ahead and purchased a 240V unit (mistakenly said 220V above) today at a local store on clearance for $1,300. Hopefully we will enjoy it.

I hope you enjoy it. $1300 is a VERY good price. The last time I looked they were close to 4K and 5K that was in stainless. Just make sure you don't have the 110 which is not worth having. The 110 plugs into any outlet the 240 has to be hardwired or that's the way it was

with mine in 1999.. Not difficult to do.

Now tonight you need to use the Advantium speed part not the Micro wave :))

$1300 is an AWESOME price if it is the 240v! I got a sweet deal on mine and it was still $2000ish.

I've been in the new house a couple of months now, so I still have a lot to learn about my speed oven, but so far I love it. The biggest inconvenience is switching out the glass & metal plates when going from microwave to oven and finding a place to put them. I have a shallow drawer in the wall oven cabinet that is directly below the speed oven. I store the extra plates there when not in use. I have a large wooden cutting board that I leave on my countertop to use as a trivet to catch the hot plates. Whether you need to do something similar really depends on your family. I don't trust mine to not sit a hot metal plate on my counters. :)

The only negative I've found with the speed oven is the max temperature. It doesn't go to 500 which is what I use for Brussel Sprouts. Not a big deal; I'll use my range for those in the future.

Also, do you have young children? Mine range in age between 6-10. I don't let them use the speed oven. I plan on buying a cheap ($50) microwave to keep in my pantry for them to use until they are old enough to use an oven. Right now they are too immature and short to safely use the speed even as a microwave.
