Comments (3)Thanks, still have to design and build/have built medicine cabinet and storage cabinet over toilet, paint edging for one edge of tile, redo window sill (too wide now that tile is up), paint door trim and door, install granite, faucet, sink, drawers and handles... Well, phoned CS this morning, she asked "Did you clean the walls first" (slight language barrier as think she must be French LOL), "of course" I replied. Thinking aha, that's probably what it was. DH installed glass when I was away, and I'm pretty darn sure he would NOT have cleaned it off before he applied the seal (comes with very high bond tape). So, not sure how we will address the seal on the stationary glass, we're thinking somehow heat it up (maybe with hair dryer) and try and reseal it... They will be sending out new seals via FedExpress (hopefully today), but DH wants to try using the heating up method to get these current ones to reseal, and keep the new ones as back-ups. They seem pretty securely fastened today... Dreaming, the bottom shelf is a piece of our granite 'Aran Creme', and the back is a stone mosaic, probably limestone or travertine marble. We will use the same mosaic as backsplash for the vanity along with matching marble pencil liners for edging, still have to decide how high to go......See MoreWhy don't people make shower doors out of acrylic?
Comments (48)"they are not huge nor are they that heavy" The glass is custom 1/2" thick glass 5 1/2 ft tall sitting on top of a 2ft high tub wall. Each pane is well over 100lbs, there are 3 panes across (pic attached). If a single pane is on the floor and you've got 2 guys prepped to lift it, i guess it's not that heavy. If you're a kid taking a shower and a 100+ pound pane whose top height is 7 1/2 ft from the floor comes down on you, that's a different story. Edit: i wanna say it's actually closer to 200 lbs per pane because i have glass in my other shower too, and it is much lighter than the glass in this shower....See MoreCold Water Washes/Tide Coldwater Anyone? Comments (25)Some of the problems with cold water people out there in the world is they see stains disappear using cool or tempered cold..many stains will be shifted..so they think Great cold water really does clean my clothes. I don't think many in the world give a thought to body oils. Weve had people come in here asking why their sheets and pillowcases have turned yellow, remember the person that was going out to buy multi colored sheets in order to hide the yellow? As for smell, a fox may smell his own hole first but humans don't, check out the laundramats those people throw handfuls of dryer sheets in the dryer and dump the FS in the washer, WHY, they want their clothes to smell clean..there's two reasons for this either they associate perfumed clothing to clean, which many do, including some people here, or they are covering something up..I think much of the time its both. cold water will not clean your textiles, just because it removed a stain does not mean the clothes are clean. Body oils come out easily in hot water but if washed in cold will build up in the fibers turning to wax...melt a candle on a garment than wash ut in cold..wash it in hot and you begin to see it melt..you all know this but someone new may not. Our mothers and grandmothers did not wash in cold, they knew more than many people out there that was a poor laundry practice....there are a lot of people, intelligent people that someone has convinced use a coldwater detergent and your clothes will be clean and your saving energy....and on top of it there's no mention of how they are damaging their machines. No I don't wash in cold or even cool, I don't care what someone else does..I value clean clothes. You had to get me started on cold water..lol...See MoreWashing my hair, why is it such a chore these days?
Comments (33)To the OP, if this has been a somewhat sudden/recent change (that washing your hair is exhausting) you might need to pay a visit to your MD. It sounds from many of the posts that this is not so uncommon as we age, but it also would be a classic symptom of silent heart problems and worth getting checked out. Women tend to have much more subtle symptoms than men, sometimes it can be hard to get our MDs to take them seriously. And, a recent check-up with no signs of trouble is not a warranty. Heart disease is notoriously hard to detect without symptoms. Not that I want to scare you, but I felt it should be said to be on the safe side. Heart disease is still the #1 killer of women, and symptoms like fatigue, an little ache in the shoulder or back, or an upset stomach are so easy to think are nothing....See More- 7 years ago
