You can hardly tell a difference between off and on! What type of bulb is in there? Grab a higher wattage LED. The wattage rating on the fan is for incandesant and for fire risk because the high watt incandesant gets very hot. High wattage LED (equivalent) does not get near as hot.I am guessing you have a 60 watt in there and would benefit from a 100 watt equivalent LED. I recently installed recessed lights to accompany my fan/light in the living room. The bedrooms have fan/lights and the light is adequate with 100 watt LED bulbs. I would recommend both in a large room if you can as recessed tend to be spot lights and a central light fixture takes care of shadows that recessed lights miss.

If you are using LED downlights in the kitchen, which it looks like they are , then you have enough light in the kitchen using the lights you have at the moment. There is a formula that can be used to work out the amount of light needed. It is a rule of thumb formula that we use in our business and we find it is quite successful. If you measure the size of a room and let us say a room is 4 m x 4 m giving 16 SQM you then multiply that by 70-100. (100 if you need lots of light) So 16 SQM x 100 is 1600. This means the room would need 1600 lumens. Any half decent downlight or globe will have a lumen count on the box. Therefore if the downlight output is 800 lumens then 2 downlights would in enough. You then do need to consider placement of the lights but generally this formula works well. Hope this is of some help.

Then remove the electrical boxes that held the fans, replace with recessed fixtures, and add as many additional recessed fixtures as you need. OR The surface mount fixtures (e.g. Halo SMD) can be installed into electrical boxes and recessed housings. You could use those fixtures with the fans' electrical boxes and into recessed housings you add IF you don't mind having surface-mount fixtures instead of recessed. "So I have an air duct that runs the length of the room. How does one space lights next to that?" Someone will have to look inside the ceiling to check the duct's location and whether there is space for recessed lights and wires. I read there were other lights, that's why I referenced this: If you don't like fans, abandon the ceiling box. Most likely, the fan light is over foot space or non-main circulation space. A recessed light will compete and detract from the accent wall eyeball light(s) and perimeter lights that creates a mood behind/around the seating area, where a central light will just blast light down and hit your foot space or the corner of the coffee table. All assumptions without good pics and more information, but those assumptions are standard fare for living rooms (see I assumed there were 4 "corner" lights and was right). A hanging fixture, however, will diffuse light better and fit the inner seating area better for the mood if you choose to have some central light there.
