Recessed lights and ceiling fans
Comments (3)You can get a battery operated puck light, and hold it up to position to see if you get any interference from the blades. If you keep a distance away, I'm sure it will work with the fans. Or, get a light kit for the fan. I would try to solve your lighting needs with portable table and floor lamps first, especially in the bedrooms and living room. Just using overhead lighting from recessed cans is not good lighting design - it's not very flattering and looks more institutional....See Moreceiling fan below recessed lights -> flickering?
Comments (7)I see. I also forgot to mention that in this room there's a cathedral ceiling, so if I had a ceiling fan it would be hanging pretty low and the recessed lights would still be all the way up in the cathedral ceiling, so it's not like i can easily isolate the fan away from the recessed lights. I wonder if I should either forego the ceiling fan, or use the lights from the ceiling fan as the primary overhead light and then use wall sconces instead of overhead recessed lighting to fill in any additional lighting requirements for the room... As you may be able to tell I'm not a lighting expert and I'm guessing it's showing through pretty clearly from my questions....See MoreLinear lights recessed lights ceiling fans
Comments (1)well, if its a new build I would do recessed, no real need for linear unless you have art work to high light that cannot be reached by the can lighting. Placement of the recessed lights around the fan wil be important too. because you do not want them too close to the fan blades. I suggest. going to a quality lighting store for ideas, and also talk you your designer. Layers of light is important. if you can post a floor plan I might have some ideas for you., Im not a pro, but I spent a lot of years in lighting. Other pros will jump on this I'm sure....See MoreReplacing a ceiling fan with a recessed can light?
Comments (8)I read there were other lights, that's why I referenced this: If you don't like fans, abandon the ceiling box. Most likely, the fan light is over foot space or non-main circulation space. A recessed light will compete and detract from the accent wall eyeball light(s) and perimeter lights that creates a mood behind/around the seating area, where a central light will just blast light down and hit your foot space or the corner of the coffee table. All assumptions without good pics and more information, but those assumptions are standard fare for living rooms (see I assumed there were 4 "corner" lights and was right). A hanging fixture, however, will diffuse light better and fit the inner seating area better for the mood if you choose to have some central light there. I don't participate in decor advice, but other commenters may visit and have great ideas to offer on what fixture....See MoreVith
