'TINY' bloom/buds on climbing rose?!?
Comments (4)I bought a yellow climber at a local nursery one year and it never did bloom - I left it for a few years and it got about eight feet tall and the year I took it out it had one large peach colored bloom on it. Strange. But what cecily said....See MoreClimbing hydrangea won't bloom
Comments (42)Your description does sound like CH is doing what it is notorious for... waiting to bloom until it reaches the top of that which it is growing on. High phosphorus levels in other plants encourage blooming but I just do not know if the plant will respond like roses do for example. Epsom salts mostly contain magnesium and some Sulfur. By the way, I am not sure how well the small tendrils will do trying to climb limestone rocks in your garage. Maybe someone has already tried and can chime in....See MoreHydrangea has lots of flower buds but they do not bloom
Comments (40)this is one of the most interesting threads that I have read. I have limelights. 4 plants, planted at same time, came from same nursery and planted adjacent to each other. They are mature plants now. 2 bloomed profusely this year. The other 2 have scores of "blooms" which did not "open up" or rather "fully develop". (Very similar to the stories above.) We could not figure out how 4 identical plants, planted at same time, same age, same variety, same light, same pruning technique and same location could produce extravagant blossoming blooms on 2 plants and stunted blooms that never mature on the other 2. This at least gives me two theories, (different moisture and sterile blooms). I did notice that the bees were going CRAZY on the plants that bloomed more profusely....See MoreClimbing hydrangea has flower buds but won't bloom
Comments (3)They actually ARE flowering!! What you see are the fertile flowers of a climbing hydrangea. The larger, showy but sterile flowers are missing. This is a factor of both time established in the garden and the age of the plant. You just need to be more patient - the typical lacecap type flower heads will appear eventually but not quite so soon. In fact, it is surprising to me that you seeing any sort of flowering on a climbing hydrangea in only the second year....See MorePatti (z6a ON Canada)
