White cabinets/white countertop? Yay or nay?
Comments (18)We have white cabs, white countertop & backsplash (calacatta marble slab for both) and 2.5+ years later I still love it. LOVE it! We also have white wainscoting in the breakfast nook with a sheer, pale grey-blue paint -- it's a light space all-around. So for us it works and works well. I would definitely second (third, fourth) what was already written about having some slight pattern / movement in your countertop to help hide the inevitable detritus of kitchen life. The swirls in our marble do a really terrific job hiding a multitude of our sins. I am a sucker for a white-on-white (or to borrow from davidro, light-on-light) kitchen. Have fun!!!...See Moresuper white countertop too loud for me
Comments (3)mtv20 - I am so sorry, I hope someone has a suggestion. Is your counter honed or polished? I have a super white island and was also worried about it being too busy and through a mistake it arrived at our house honed, when we assumed it would be polished (because the uncut slab was polished.) Long story short, the honing softened the look considerably and we preferred it to the polished. So...just something else to consider if yours is not honed. I don't know if there is any issue with honing something already polished and sealed - if they can I suspect they have to take it out and bring it back to the shop. That can be done - we had a bad seam on the perimeter and had it removed and the edge redone with no issues. If yours is already honed, I hope there is other ideas. Another consolation is once everything else is 'in' the counters will look less intense, really. It is like you are staring with a microscope because you don't see it in context with everything else. Other things will draw the eye and it may "work" for you. Really....See MoreAntique White cabinets - backsplash too white??
Comments (4)Those white tiles are definitely too white for your cabinets. There are tons of tile options out there -- keep looking until you find the right warm white one. Given your two types of counters I would stick to a simple backsplash -- I don't think the mosaic will work well....See MoreWhite cabinets with white backsplash too much?
Comments (21)ccwaters, true that crackle tile may stain, but that is why most manufacturers will recommend that crackle tile should be sealed. Do the research on what you are buying and how to properly care for it! I used a Pratt & Larson crackle and their specs stated the following: "All Crackle glazes in the RC and W line should be sealed to prevent water penetration and tile discoloration. Seal all crackle glazes with penetrating silicone sealer before and after grouting. Watercolor and RC glazes will continue to crackle over time. For long term maintenance we recommend resealing the crackled tiles every 3-6 months for the first year and every 6 months afterwards to further protect the glaze surface."...See MoreDeborah Meyer-Lowe's/Rancho Cordova, CA
