This kitchen doesn't work - what can I do?
Comments (40)Re: layout of kitchen, I like this plan without seating (since you don't want seating): Vs: this plan For or a couple reasons: 1) fridge is closer to living and dining room preventing traffic into the kitchen and easier to fetch things when eating and 2) a nice wall hood with beautiful backsplash is always a nice focal point from the living room vs a fridge and 3) cooktop is more protected and not in an aisle Mama Goose already addressed the concern I had re: bathroom visibility by moving the opening. Comments (13)Here are directions to turn a narrow upper into a horizontal cabinet like xonatxo has suggested. They've used an 18" cabinet to fit between counter and uppers. Not sure IKEA has a 12" x 30" tall upper, but plans for Cool IKEA hack nonetheless. https://inspiredkitchendesign.com/ikea-kitchen-hack-cabinet-many-uses/...See MoreBuilder doesn't like my cabinets

This thread is a different scenario since the door style is very traditional and there will be an exceptional number of appliances in the layout, so there is more of a stark traditional/modern contrast between stainless steel (or whatever the appliance finishes will be) and the door style unless paneling is done....See MoreMid-Century Kitchen Soffit / Bulkhead - To Paint or Not to Paint
Comments (6)Those soffits were always painted the color of the walls, not the ceiling. Since I am pretty old, I did live through the era, when everyone had them. Never the color of the cabinets either, and a kitchen like yours, would never have had crown moulding. Oh, and by the way, your kitchen looks really nice. Its great that someone has taken excellent care of it....See MoreUser
