PSA: Label your Seeds
Comments (2)I learned my lesson about labeling. The first seed tray I started, had about 20 different types of seed in it. I had them all mapped out square by square on paper. I cut the trays up into 6 cell segments and rearranged them all after a couple of weeks (arranging the plants from highest to lowest) without physically marking all the segments. I didn't really realize my mistake until after the damage was done. They were my first real seedlings too, I had no idea what any of them were....See MoreA PSA: If you think your "privacy glass" is truly private ...
Comments (27)Well, the Rachwell Ashwell Shabby Chic curtain that I admired in my brother's home looks like Shabby S*** in this room. Oh well, at least it's only temporary! I spoke to the designer yesterday and she's pulling together fabric samples for me. So far she seems to favor the idea of a simple Roman shade with contrasting banded edges, and that's one idea that I've had since the beginning, so I'd be on board. Still eager to see what other choices she comes up with though. Having the fabric on the window is weird (and it doesn't fit perfectly, but like I said, it's temporary). It does make me feel a lot more secure in the room, since there's no longer that gaping black hole of a window to contend with when it's dark out....See MorePSA : Transplanting :
Comments (3)That wasn't intended as a criticism, a1an, just an example that was triggered by your rock experience. There have been shovels broken in my household when someone I won't name tried to use a shovel to pry a rock out. I could have just as easily said to use a saw rather than loppers when a branch is larger than 2". A corollary to the right equipment would be to use the right safety measures such as wear shoes when using a shovel since if your foot slides off you can slice tendons and use hearing protection with power tools....See MorePSA: Long lead times for high-end appliances + building materials
Comments (9)The backlog of consumer goods was the subject of the lead article in today's Wall Street Journal. Also contributing to the mess (besides enormous demand, Covid shutdowns all along the pipeline, and distribution bottlenecks): last month's deep freeze in the Oil Belt has made petrochemical products scarce: plastics, paints, fabrics are in short supply now. And this was new to me: low interest rates have turned everybody into a house flipper or wanting a house to buy for rental purposes. That means sprucing up the place to make it attractive to buyers/renters, and that means...more demand on appliances & home improvement products. Prices are going up: chips, copper, plastic, fabric, & of course lumber, shingles, siding. I'm in the process of buying an oven. I need to get on my salesperson to lock in my price now, even if I don't get the oven until autumn. That will eat into the one year warranty, but I was planning to purchase an extended warranty from the manufacturer anyway....See MoreUser
