Our island is small, only about 5 feet long. I thought hard about taking out the single existing box and putting in two pendants but that will require a patch on a textured ceiling and the ceiling in 3 rooms to be painted because there is no stopping point. I can see a patch that was done when the house was built, electrician said they drilled in the wrong spot and it's visible because of the high windows. I was thinking about using fixture #2 over the oval kitchen table without the shades to not have the white shade issue.

Our island is about 8 feet long and I think 3 feet wide? And our dining table is a rectangle- one of those huge restoration style wood rustic styles. But we are totally open to new everything. Combining 2 households so getting rid of stuff to make room for more "permanent" pieces that reflect both of us ; ) Thank you!

IMO your DR fixture can be a stand alone onw since it is the star of the DR and does not need to go with the kichen lighting . As for the choice IMO way too early to go there. There is no way to clean a 10x10 island so you need a KD ASAP not your architect or cabinets sales person but an actual independant KD. First get that done then you at least know how many fixtures in the kitchen the DR you need to know your table size and where it will be placed then the electrician can do his job.
