Comments (47)The pump was put in two weekends ago, and the waterfall has been sounding just so lovely. Before that I had the little skimmer pump moving the water around while we did water changes. All our fish survived, the only casualty of the winter was Bubba, the big frog. So now Wannabe is going to be called Bubba, and Waldo will be Wannabe, and any one of the smaller ones will be Waldo. They all look the same to me except for relative size... The goldfish are jumping out of the water, and our lone big koi is cruisin'. The had cheerios for a while in April, then spring/autumn food. Today the water temp was over 60, and I gave them summer food - mostly because I'm almost out of spring food... I have to order some. They sure didn't mind. The day the ice melted from the pond surface, was the day that the first lily leaf poked its head up. There are many lily leaves now and the pickerels and grassy marginals are all starting up. They all need repotting - but, no rush... We took the sediment filters apart last fall, they were working well but too large and unwieldy when wet. And the screws had rusted through. So we have to design a lighter weight version now. Meanwhile the double settling chamber is helping a lot even without the filters. Maybe we'll get that done this weekend. Weekends without ponding are hardly worth staying home for! :) Mary...See Moremember from canada
Comments (17)Wow..didn't know this was goin on.. I must say I am an OT poster. I feel I have made friends on here I would like to share things in my life with, good or bad. And I want to hear about theirs. We are here for each other, like a family. Lots of us feel the same way obviously, and I think it's great. I have lurked at alot of forums, and posted on some asking questions and what not. None of them are anywhere close to being as great as this place. I have to say that here on our MARVELOUS brug forum, I have learned more here than I have on all the other forums I have read, and posted on. There are people on here who know alot more than just about brugs, and if anyone has a question, 99% of the time someone knows the answer, on topic or not. If it weren't for the OT topics, I agree with others, this would be a boring place just like the rest of the forums, and we wouldn't be here as often. We wouldn't get the quick help and advice we need..or friends to vent to. It'd be dead like the bamboo forum! LOL! JRoot..if YOU ever need to vent, need a shoulder to cry on, or just want to share something happy that has happened in your life..we'd be here for YOU. As for Original Posters leaving the forum, how do you know they left? Maybe they still lurk. MAYBE life goes on, people get busy, they just don't have the time, whatever. Noone stays on a forum for their whole life. People move on. We all "do our own thing in our gardens". You make it sound as though they stay away b/c of the OT posts and are hiding in their gardens fending for themselves guessing as to what may be the right thing to do w/their brugs..guessing as to what may be wrong..god no, they can't come HERE for help..we post OFF TOPIC here..AAAHHHH!! You have to admit JRoot, this is the best forum going. The best group you could ever ask to be part of. I am VERY proud to be part of it, and so thankful to have been welomed with open arms when I came here in the fall of '07. OK I'll shut up now. Comments (23)Hi Barb, I think your choices are perfect! H. heuschkeliana is one of my earliest favorites and I still think everyone should have both pink and yellow varieties because they smell so good and bloom so often and are so easy to care for. If we were picking plants to become a living carpet and take over, it would be right up there on my list. I haven't had Mathilde that long - I really put off obtaining it forever for some reason. But it is so cute that I feel stupid now. Grows super fast too. H. lacunosa is another one where I just... want to collect them all. Very different from one another and universally well behaved. My favorite for the longest time was Sno Caps, but I'm really liking these hard green succulent ones like the Thai Clone and Langkawai recently. My Royal Flush is finally starting to be really colorful all the time. If you're checking the archives, you should do some searches for lacunosas (Whenever I write that name, I hear Hermione Granger saying "lacu-nooooo-sah" (nee leviosa) in my head) because there are some AMAZING photos from members of their giant plants. I created a thread on how to post photos a while back. I kind of want to do a new one that's a bit clearer, but for now it works well enough. (Here it is)....See Morelindalana 5b Chicago
