Comments (24)I was going to post a pic of a goldfish....I recently went back to my old Photobucket and found a lot of old pics, but I love snakes too....so here is a snake that I "knew" from when I lived on the bayou. I called her Big Mama. She is a plain bellied water snake....also sometimes called a yellow bellied water snake. Most often confused as a cotton mouth moccasin and usually killed by people who don't know the difference, or by a lot of people who just don't care. This is a cottonmouth. You can easily tell by the facial markings....the bar thru the eyes. This is Ten Dogs. They also have vertical pupils but you don't have to get close enough to see that...you can easily tell by the facial markings. And non poisonous water snakes have vertical lines on their lower jaws. If you can recognize the four poisonous snakes found in the US, you don't have to fear snakes. It really isn't difficult. And, because I found this old photo....this is the goldfish I was going to post. I don't know why I caught it and put it in that bowl....most likely looking for a pair to spawn. This is a comet....they have a long, single tail. Actually, called a Sarassa Comet, which just means a red and white comet....See MoreI'll show you mine/you show me yours - F 7/29/22

Comments (8)Women in Manitoba gathered early in the 20th century to ask for voting rights, to give them the right to run for office and to sit in the Manitoba Assembly. The Manitoba Election Act was accordingly amended in January, 1916, and this became the first province in Canada to grant voting rights to women. A portion of the act in the first photo and the entire act following. Edited to correct spelling....See More
7 years agoNot too far from the Pacific Ocean, Peru has landscapes like this. Nothing growing as far as one can see. Not even a weed.

The anticipation is killing me...OPEN...OPEN...OPEN...
Got 240 of these off CL late last October. Full of buds!
7 years agoI love Columbine so much and have not had much luck with them. Annie, Summer and Arcy, yours are just beautiful and so healthy looking. What is your secret? I bought these about six weeks ago and have yet to plant them because I just don't know where to place them. I hope it's not too late already. This picture is, of course, from the day I brought them home.

7 years agoI had a number of empty jars in a box in a book-case. I recently cleared out the box but still kept it.
Every so often I'd see the box was pulled out and not tucked in like I keep it.
Today I see the reason why.....

Playing around on how lighting can make a big difference. Left is back light from setting sun. Right is front light from morning sun.
7 years agoCaflowerlover, very cool. My Columbine has already bloomed. I have a baby coming up. I guess from a seed. Next year I will capture the seeds. I am indecisive today so I will share the photos of the Riverhouse garden that I shot this morning. Also please identify the yellow bushy plant. I am happy that I did not pull it thinking it was a weed. I have plenty of weeds.

The first hydrangea in a bed of what I think is Queen Anne’s Lace
And finally the magnolia. It smells so sweet. I wish it bloomed all summer.

happy2b, the flower is a Gaillardia and the variegated plant with the lovely hydrangeas is what is commonly called Bishop's weed.
