Comments (16)I read your thread yesterday, but didn't have a chance to respond. As sad as your family's story is, it's good you at least have the relief of it not being rabies. I'll try to keep this short, but like calliope said, I lean toward going ahead and getting the rabies vaccine for your cats if they are healthy enough- after having thought about this for years. One of my cats died from a cancer caused by getting the rabies vaccine. After that I didn't want to have any of my cats vaccinated for rabies, but we've lived in places where it is required by law, so I've taken a deep breath and had it done. Then my old girl became too ill to receive the rabies vaccine, so for 6 years the vet wrote her rabies waivers as needed. At first, I had a sense of relief that I would never have to worry about putting that vaccine in that cat again, but my mind later changed. She was on a rabies waiver when the thread calliope referenced about the person with the bat in the apartment came up. After that I started thinking more and more about my non-vaccinated, indoor only cat, and NOT having rabies vaccination bothered me more. For one thing, I could not allow anyone else to pill her, for fear she might inadvertently sink a tooth into their finger. If the person then went to their doctor, the doctor would be obligated to report it to authorities, and a rabies waiver wouldn't work as a "get out of jail free" card, it was only okay to be on a rabies waiver providing no incidents ever happened. If something did happen, it was essentially the same as someone being bitten by animal that could not easily be proven to be rabies free. And then there were the squirrels and mice that are around the house. I live in the desert. Not much wildlife, but enough even near the house at times to give pause for thought. Even an interaction through a screen, or if kitty got rambunctious and burst outside-- you just never know what will happen. And for me, it seemed unlikely that she would ever contract rabies, but the problem would have been if some event occurred which came to light and was later questioned by authorities. Having the rabies vaccine would make things okay, not having it can just lead to additional problems-- as you are probably gathering. Even having been through the vaccination cancer, I will likely always keep my cats rabies vaccinated if their health allows for it. The risks are small, and the potential reward is peace of mind....See Moremy cat has cancer
Comments (41)Laurie, so nice to see you back, and I hope you are improving healthwise, and also emotionally, I know how tiring things can be, and its good to see you back here, just try not to over-do things, one day at a time, things can get done if and when you feel strong enough. Nina, I'm saddened to hear Bentley is not doing so good, its so difficult to make that decision, I could cry for you right now. I think I have missed some comments somehow, Destiny? I have just read about her in Laurie's comment, I'm guessing she is a new addition! As for Tabitha, we had a set back, she woke up suddenly on the armchair, and I think she must have forgotten she had lost her leg, jumped straight off the chair, and unfortunately hurt her remaining leg. (despite steps, cushions etc, which she totally refuses to use) Vet said it was most likely bruised, (not broken thank the Lord) so back on cage rest she went again for another week, which is why I have not had much time to get on here. We were so upset, since she was going so well. It seems to have taken her back quite a bit, she is very very slow now, and seems to have lost some of her confidence, which may not be such a bad thing, but she has also stiffened up on her back legs from all the laying around, so I think we are in for quite a long haul to get her completely moving again. She is on joint supplements now, but vet says it will take 4-6 weeks for them to start kicking in, so, slowly goes it!! But, we thank our lucky stars she is still with us, her recent bloods were all good, and she is eating and drinking well, and does move a bit, so we'll just take it one day at a time. It is also extremely hot here at the moment, so the heat is probably making her less willing to move much. Laurie, how is Mew? Hoping he is still doing good, head bonks from us!! Nina, keep strong, and know you are in our thoughts, keep us updated, and give Bentley a huge hug from me. Take care guys, will keep you posted. x...See MoreAugust FOTESS: For the Birds!
Comments (200)Evening, Everybody! First of all, HI Peggy! Nice to hear from you! Beth just posted the September FOTESS swap, why don't you join us this month!? Secondly, Annie, I have that Butterfly embossing folder, never thought to use my silver paper with it! Is it silver paper or foil? And thirdly, and most importantly, yes, Darrin, the package was waiting for me when I got home today and I have to tell you, I was astounded and thrilled at all the goodies you and Ellie packed in there! Good Grief, what a fantastic package! My pictures don't do it justice, but I'll post them anyway. But first, Darrin, don't stress about the Cerulean Blue notecards, I've received them like this before, nothing is wrong with them! And secondly, what is the little ladybug ornament/jewelry? I can't figure it out. In any event, Ladies, Darrin and Ellie sent me two packs of notecards, one with beautiful flowers and the other has a picture of the Cerulean Blue Warbler on them. Really pretty! Also, two beautiful hummingbird picks/stakes, with fluttery wings, will save these for my containers next year. A motion activated robin, another beautiful butterfly bookmark, a very unique pair of tweezers two little keychain lights and a 6 inch ruler with chicks on it were also included. They sent me a cross-stitch pattern for a Cerulean Warbler, which I'm not going to start until I retire next year. Great project for winter and it will give me some time to review how to do this! Ellie, where did you find this pattern? We're not done yet! I got two packs of seeds: Firecracker Penstemon, for the Hummers, and Evening Star sunflower seeds! 6 packages of hot chocolate mix, a gazillion assorted flavored teabags and 2 Dove bars! If it weren't 97 in the shade, I'd be enjoying one of these now! And my favorite out of the whole glorious package, a beautiful white ceramic mug with a pic of the Cerulean Blue Warbler on it! Darrin, this is so pretty! And I can tell you read my post about the Warblers being one of my favorite birds! How sweet of you guys to take the time and trouble to find something you knew I would like. This mug will always be special to me. Darrin and Ellie, I can't thank you enough for this package, I never expected all of this and I am thrilled with all of it. Thank you, Thank you, Thank you! Shirley! Okay, I'm having trouble posting the pictures. I'll be back as soon as I figure it out. WhooHooo!! Did it! Isn't that mug lovely?...See More- daisyincrete Z10? 905feet/275 metres thanked comtessedelacouche (10b S.Australia: hotdryMedclimate)
