Tried to fix green stripes help!

So about almost 2 weeks ago I put down Scott’s turf builder weed and feed, I got crazy green lines that are very noticeable in the pattern I walked. So I went ahead and tried to fertilize just the parts that were not as green but the store only had Scott’s green max, I did spread it on a slightly smaller setting then recommended.

My problem is I’m now having a panic attack after reading online that I may have killed my grass. Is there anything I can do at this point to try and avoid fertilizer burn? I’ve worked pretty hard on this grass and it’s going to pain me to see it just fail from one mistake I made.

I applied the fertilizer last night and we’re suppose to get a rain storm today.

The problem is likely not what you did, but reading online. I would not have a panic attack over it. If you used a spreader and reasonable setting, I doubt that you caused any damage, or lasting damage as, in the first place, Scotts is not giving you directions that takes you within a hair's breadth of total grass destruction. There is some leeway. If you did cause damage, water plus time will be your friend.

Normally when applying fertilizer and many other chemicals, you'd want to split the rate in half, and then cover the ground twice, taking a perpendicular approach on the second application. That way, there are no stripes in the application pattern, but instead, uniform coverage.

would you have a recommended watering schedule, so far it’s not burning and just finished raining. There was a tonne of rain between the two applications as well.

Your gemoetry is correct in principle, but who takes off an 1/8" when sharpening their blade?... maybe 0.010-0.015 at most. What is a big contributor to this problem in 3-blade designs is blade tip speed. The spindles etc are all designed for a certain max RPM, but that RPM in a 2-blade configuration results in higher blade tip speed than in a 3-blade configuration, because of the length of the blade. What I did to solve this same problem on my L120 was 3 things: 1. Increase the governor Engine speed form the standard 2900 to 3300-3400. I figured my spindles won't last and that I'll have to replace thm every 100 hours... but they did last.... I sold the mower with 400 hours on it - no problems... And the striping problem was gone. 2. To help with juicy spring-grass, I also stopped mulching, and started side discharging. With the cutting height set to 3.5" to 4", if I saw dried out grass clippings that didn't fall in between the growing grass a day or two after the cut, that meant that I needed to cut more often, so I'd shorten the time between cuts by a day. Spring & fall time (cool & wet) = every 5 days. Peak of summer (hot and dry) = every 7 days. 3. Used my high-lift blades (that came with the bagger kit) all season. I only used the bagger in the fall - for the leaves, but using the high lift blades all-year pumped so much air out the discharge chute, that the clippings would fly out 12-15 feet to the side, scattering nicely, and not leaving any thick clumps. I am wondering why so many of your plants died? Too much water, not enough water, planted when too hot and not shaded, were the plants in poor condition when planted, etc? I suggest you figure that out first before spending money on more plants. Do you like the look of fewer plants surrounded by mulch or a bed full of plants with little mulch showing? I think the hosta grouping adds flow to the bed. You might want to move them elsewhere but the layout is good. Eventually the one nearest the ninebark will need to be moved forward. IMO plants circling trees and shrubs are not as interesting. Choose plants that are different heights and some with different leaf textures. What are your favorite colors of blooms? Do you want plants that flower different times of the year, spring, summer, fall? Do you want mostly nonflowering perennials/ shrubs and some flowering annuals that add interest? Or mostly perennials/ shrubs, flowering or not? I suggest that before buying more plants you walk and drive around your area to see what grows well for others and which plants you like. Maybe this plant from someone's bed and that plant from another place. Visit nurseries to see what is offered? Then make a list of the plants you like and check their growth requirements and if they would work with your light and space limitations. Look at photos of gardens to get other ideas. I know one wants the space landscaped right now but taking the time to answer the above questions and to discover what you like will result in you being more satisfied with the resulting landscape. Or, hire a landscaper whose work you admire.

To fix that now you probably don't want to apply another dose of chemicals. You can apply an organic fertilizer like corn meal, alfalfa pellets (rabbit chow), corn gluten meal, soybean meal, or Milorganite (pick one from the selection at your local feed store). These do not interact with chemical fertilizers, so you can apply them right on top of each other. They will green it up (in 3 weeks). The application rate is 15 pounds per 1,000 square feet.

Don't move the credenza then. Get an area rug, center one group of seating around fireplace and conversation and then maybe get a tea cart or something and put a small chair or two around that near the doors/windows to the outside. You can sit and sip your tea and watch the birdies outside there in the winter! When the weather gets nice you can carry the chairs out to the deck to sit in the sun! Then roll the cart out there with some cocktails later in the day!

If you over fertilized that much it would be brown/dead by now. Stop fertilizing until next year. No need to water unless you really want it to grow ! Cut the grass, and learn from your mistake. Good advice fromyardvaark ! Are you saying I have hope since it’s been 24 hours since my second application and there is no burn spots yet?

If you applied once and then went back to fill in spots you missed, even in spite of some overlap, it's doubtful you put enough on to hurt it. I think this is going to be a nothing-burger.

And ... you got the benefit of learning how to create stripes!!!
