a few show photos, and what came home with me
Comments (5)Ha ha, I wish. No, that was a show citrata, given an award (don't remember which place). I took a pic of it to remind myself what they can be. I've had a citrata for a while, and it's doing great now. But it had its struggles. My citrata is what started the whole 'building my acrylic case' endeavor, and my very first ang. Wish I could've smelled that citrata, but it was set back a little far for me to lean over properly and try to smell it without feeling like I was going to fall into the display pit. Still waiting for mine to bloom. The spike looks like it's growing, but not super fast. Maybe it stalled? It's sending out a new root and keeps putting out new leaves. Oh well....See MoreA few Hostas from my garden - photos
Comments (11)Amazing! Brenda, I was able to find the tags (readable even) on all but one of the hosta that I posted the photos of. In order, from top photo to bottom photo, they are: 1) Ice Age Trail 2) ** missing tag ** I thought it was Blue Dimples, but it doesn't look like the Blue Dimples photos on Hostalib so now I'm not sure. 3) Montana Aueromarginata 4) Queen of the Seas 5) Same hosta as number 2 - from another angle. 6) Orange Marmelade (my husband's absolute favorite) 7) Iron Gate Delight I'd love to post more pics, if anyone would like to see them. Some I can identify, some I can't. I have somewhere around 280-300 varieties, but not all are picture worthy :-)...See MoreFew photos from the backyard
Comments (14)Thanks! Yes, the clarkia was an experiment and I've already noticed them wilt slightly in the hot midday sun. The flowers are interesting--some single, some double, and different colors. I prefer larkspur over them so I'm unlikely to grow them again. I'm hoping for more rain soon, too. I'm concerned it's going to be another nasty dry summer. The tithonias were very popular with the butterflies here. They will bloom for 6-8 weeks if left to their own devices before starting to dieback. They did self seed for me so I didn't have to do any manual successive planting. Apparently you can deadhead them to extend their bloom time. For me they grew to 6-8 feet tall and 2-3 feet wide. You can cut them back to keep them shorter, though. I planted a bunch close together so they could support each other. With stronger winds, they tend to want to lean once they get some height. Doesn't affect their growth, though. Took awhile for the lesser goldfinches to discover them, but once they did, they enjoyed the seed heads....See MoreCan I keep a contractor from using photos of my home?
Comments (7)@User sigh...here we go again with you not reading my post and telling me what I think. What is the role of a GC, do tell. Causing so many delays that the homeowners have to fire them and get their own subs? We became the executive master planners. The schedulers. The babysitters. I know EXACTLY the role of a GC, and this guy wasn't it. When the GC tells you he will be working on X, Y, and Z and he does none of those and lets your house sit for months, with nothing but excuses and lies, who has the completely incorrect expectation? If that's YOUR expectation of a GC, my sincere apologies about your situation. Please, let's not get in an argument about eggplant parmesan again. @bry911 Now that our house is finished (with subs we hired ourselves) one of those subs told us that the old GC may have used photos of our completed house to bid other jobs. If the GC had taken exterior pics of our foundation and the framing (which is all he did) before the completion of the house and said, "I poured the foundation and framed this house" and showed pics of that to people, fine. But to show pics of a completed house where he had nothing to do with anything else that contributed to the house being built, and claim to be the GC for that house, I think is disingenuous. I would not recommend that GC to anyone and I don't want him showing pics of my house as if he did a great job for us or had any involvement in its completion. I guess a letter could be sent, but like you said, maybe not much can be done?...See MoreIce
