FWIW, and possibly unfortunately, I agree with your friend. The short moment when the door is open isn't sufficient to justify matching the satin nickle inside; and IMHO, metals within eyeball range should be at least of similar color. One sees (even if not consciously studies) the exterior lights and exterior knobs as a decor unit, and upon departing, the room's interior knobs (whether cabinet or several doors) are a different unit. I realize the SET of mix/match knobs looks strange while it's in your hand, but honestly, once installed, I don't think anyone ever stands at the door's edge in order to eyeball the interior and exterior knobs at the same time. I suspect you'd have to work hard to name any m/m sets in your present world, and yet there are likely to be many (especially on bathroom doors).

Sorry, ORB = oil-rubbed bronze! :) Our backdoor hardware is oil-rubbed bronze, which I hated at the start of our remodel, but which actually looks more at home now that it's done--it plays off of the black fixtures, I think. (We also replaced the door with a stained rather than painted door, which helped a lot too--so rather than "random finishes," we have the nickel on the cabinets, the ORB on the stained door, the brass on the painted doors/windows, and the black on the lights and accents (stove grates are black here too). Plus I totally forgot about the stainless hood, so yeah, we are not sticklers for matching finishes! (We do also have an older house, though, which I think gives us a little more freedom for finishes to vary than a newer house where everything was matchy-matchy to start with--even our windows and doors with original hardware vary in that some of the hardware and hinges have been painted over and are now "white" and some of the hardware is still brass.) Our kitchen is not open to any room except our breakfast nook, so we did match the fixture finishes there. But I don't think we needed to do that, necessarily. I would wait on your dining room fixture till the kitchen is done and see how you feel about matching versus not at that point.

( Follow to the end, if you can ) The Brizo Odin in Stainless ( satin nickel ) is not boring, it works perfectly great with the s.s hardware and your s.s. appliances and you just stated you do not want a brass toned faucet. You want the brass tone in your lighting. You really don't need three finishes in the kitchen. ( exception at end of my post ) If you absolutely can't live with that? Do the chrome. Polished Nickel will be a pain and will take on a far warmer , greener cast you really don't want with the hardware and it isn't great with the brass you want in lighting, either. Also will spot far more. I don't love the knurled pull with the EDGE pull. ...sorry. Something sleeker - a closed end D pull would be better. It feels more intentional and at the same time less competitive among similar finishes. Perhaps warm brass on the cabinet hardware.......SS Appliances, and.....black for the faucet , or a black with just a dab of brass: ) A bit more black/brass in lighting where the combination is plentiful Brizo black w/luxe gold.... By now, you have figured out I do feel the kitchen might feel just a tad.....flat. Needing a little jolt of higher contrast: ) jmho.
