Living room furniture layout, weird space

Trying to figure out where and what kind of furniture to put in our living room. It is an awkward space with a fireplace and bay window. The furniture in the picture is just from the house listing, we don’t have anything in there now so it’s a blank slate. Want to keep it simple and not overly crowded. We will not be putting a TV in the room since we have other spaces with TVs. We also have two small kids so don’t want anything with sharp etc... would love suggestions on layout - couches, chairs, love seat?? Help!

I don't think anyone can help you with layout unless you have a floorplan.

In terms of what to put in this space, I do like the dark couches and how they contrast with your light walls and carpet. You do need some color, though.

Some wall art that's high up enough where the kids can't play with it would help. Oranges and reds would brighten the room a bit and bring some visual interest.

A coffee table to unify the couches a bit more could also help warm the space. I'm always a huge fan of natural woods with a smooth finish, like you can see here. You could probably get some bumpers for the corners of the coffee table so the kids didn't poke themselves by accident.

Let go of the idea that you have to have the sofa or any furniture at all against a wall. The best solution is to "float" the sofa, in your case, to face the fireplace. Get a really nice very large rug, put it in the middle of the room to anchor the space, and place the sofa and coffee table on it. Some shelving to the sides of the fireplace would be an ideal place to place a TV--on the right unless you have a huge TV. A nice easy chair on the left of the fireplace under the window with a floor lamp or shelf lamp behind it would make a cozy reading corner yet would add to your conversational grouping. IMO a sectional in your space is the wrong choice. I actually love the sofa and the 2 chairs you have in that space. Setionals are IMO the most expensive way to get the most uncomfortable seats. Arm rests = comfort and a sectional at best has 2 no matter how many seats . So everyone else is sitting just like they do on the middle seat on a sofa the seat no one wants.

The current layout creates a hallway through the living room, and doesn't allow you to enjoy the view. I would wall mount the TV to the right of the windows, or put it on a slim console. That heavy console needs to go, and probably the desk. The couch looks fine, if it's comfortable. I would get rattan side chairs. The tile looks to be in good shape, so you could get a sisal rug or a colorful indoor/outdoor one. Do you plan to rent this place out? If so, that needs to be a primary consideration, because renters have a way of destroying things.
