I recently read that it's easily (?) mistaken for poison hemlock. Reading something like that always makes me nervous.

I had never heard of sweet cicely until I saw a New England travel show where they featured a 'tea house' in CT that specialized in using their homegrown stuff in what they made and sold. I remember them using sweet cicely as a sugar substitute in a bundt cake and they had the leaves beautifully pressed into the cake mold. Thought it would be interesting to try, but then I'm not really sure how it's properly used.

Nancy, try some day lily petals with your salad greens. I pick them at dinner time when they won't last for the next day....and each variety tastes a little different....mostly reminescent of artichoke. And Pretty!

I love to add daylily flowers to salad. So pretty and tasty too. I toss in the whole flower but that would be dependent on the variety and size of the blossom.

ok, I need to eat my daylilies fresh then. I've eaten the flowers battered and fried before, but they weren't my own. :)

I grew it once in an herb garden. Not very robust. Cute but inconsequential. Didn't grow many so not much product so I can't say about the taste.

lpink, I grew it once before too, but agree it seemed inconsequential and I never did anything with it, but I did save the seeds. It may have been the soil -- acidic and very sandy. I knew someone who said she grew it in her clay soil and it grew like a monster for her. I found the (15 year old!) seeds recently and decided to plant them while they still might grow and I have 3 very nice plants growing in pots now. :)

Could be, because the soil I was growing it in was somewhat sandy too. I think I was also maybe pushing its zone. It grew, but certainly not like a weed and didn't spread. I have the same sketchy results usually when I grow cilantro.
