I have carpeting in the bedrooms and in an open living/dining area. The rest of the floors (kitchen, hallways and bathrooms, laundry etc. are tiled.) My first thought was to simply replace the carpeting with more tiles, but since there is no way I can match the existing tile, I want something else that would look good next to the tile. It would also look odd having a new style of tile in the master bedroom with another tile on the bathroom floor and then a third tile in the master shower. It could be all ripped out and done over to make everything match with a new tile, but that's getting into way too large and expensive of a project. I haven't got any quotes for adding tile, but it's probably more than I want to spend. I also remember when I had the tile installed the first time, that it made a huge mess and I needed a cleaning crew to clean everything from walls and cabinets to windows to get rid of all the grout dust. What can carpeting in bedrooms and the livingroom/dining area be replaced with that is less expensive than installing tile, but more durable than laminate that will get scratched gouged by furniture? I assume hardwood would be easier and faster to install replacing carpeting than tile would be, but wood is also too easy to damage. I will have a contractor install whatever I get, so ease/quickness of installation to save on labor costs is more important than the cost of materials.

Porcelain tile. Sheet vinyl. Both require professional installation. Any floor that 'clicks' together will have seams. Seams have the possibility to leak. Therefore they are not water proof FLOORS. The INDIVIDUAL plank will be water proof...but the FLOOR (when planks are installed next to each other) will not be. For a cheap option...sheet vinyl. There will be retailers that have ends that they would be happy to sell at a very low price and then the install would be relatively fast and easy as well (you won't "save" the price of install but you will save PLENTY on the price of the product = same amount of savings...just in a different way). Does anyone with dogs have any experience with Nydree hardwoof or their wide plank oak and how it has held up?

It takes a HIGH END rubberized product (as mentioned by Johnson Flooring above...Amorim = highend cork/rubber products) to get a non-odourizing product. Airing out a low-grade/smelly rubber = forever. I'm not kidding. Some of these products STINK for months and months and months. Some people have had to throw them out to get rid of the smell. When the rubber arrives, go ahead and open up a package and leave it sitting beside your sofa (or wheresoever you like to sit during the evenings) and see how much it affects you. If you get a headache inside of a few hours (my headache/migraine starts within 20 minutes) or you find your lungs feel like they are 'burning' or like they are feeling 'tight' then go ahead and send them straight back to the company you purchased them from. Of course you will 'own' the package you opened...to be 'sure' of your decision leave the package open for a few weeks in your living room. After 2 weeks, if the odour is still there then it will be one of the one's that take months and months and months to dissipate Personally I would have purchased a cork floating floor for $3/sf and clicked it together. The type of use in your little gym is perfect for cork flooring.
