Name That Plant!

Spring-flowering purple or blue-purple bulb

In the last week or so I've been seeing these bell-shaped flowers a lot just outside Boston, zone 6b. I'm pretty sure they come from a bulb. Can anyone identify it? The first photo is a larger plant; the second is just the flower stalk from a smaller plant, with flowers more blue than purple.

Actually, I'm also curious to know what the yellow flower is in the first picture.

Wood hyacinths, Hyacinthoides species. These are often rather aggressive spreaders.

The yellow flowering plant is cypress spurge, Euphorbia cyparissias.

Looks to me like a Tradescantia. For me, they seed to the point of becoming a weed, so I'm not surprised you found them along the railroad tracks :) One year I planted some that were given to me-just popped them into an empty spot. Found out the spot I had for them was not big enough, and not "casual" enough. I'm still weeding them from that location, but they are gorgeous!

If it were my garden, I would try with great persistence to remove both; as GG mentioned, they can be aggressive.
