My Stupidest Decorating Mistake - or We Were Once All Newbies
Comments (55)OMG, I've been ROFLMAO reading through all these posts . . . they're priceless! My worst decorating disaster was way back in my very first apartment down in Deerfield Beach, Florida. The landlords liked me and so they ok'd me painting one (huge) wall in my bedroom as long as I agreed to put it back to (stark) white before I moved. My boyfriend at the time was an artist, who also had no previous wall painting experience! I let him talk me into painting the wall a dark forest green and then he got the great(stupid!) idea of making a mosaic design with mirrors on it. I let him (stupidly) glue (with some heavy duty auto glue) twenty-plus 12"x12" mirrors to the wall in a huge flying bird design. I know, we must've lost our minds! Well, six months later, as I was ready to move to my new duplex, I tried getting those mirrors off the wall. OMG, what a nightmare!!! When I finished, it looked like some cannon company had used my dark green wall for target practice! I was in tears and petrified that I was never going to get that wall back to normal again. My grandfather and I worked for days patching Thank goodness my retired grandpa was brilliant when it came to that kind of stuff (heck, he was brilliant at everything!), but he was ready to toss me off my balcony when he first got a look at that wall! I was on Gramp's poop list for a couple of weeks after that, but I did learn several big lessons on what NOT to do to a wall! Did I mention that the boyfriend was not allowed back at Gram & Gramps house after that? I broke up with him a couple of weeks after that anyway. I needed a boyfriend that was smart, like my Gramp. Comments (8)I would change out the pillows on the sofa (or at least add a pillow) that has a print with some of the blue you want to incorporate into the room. I would do a lighter gray on the walls in the living room with a darker version of the blue on the accent wall, then I'd carry the lighter blue into the kitchen. I love yellow but I would only use it for accents on fabrics or art because its hard to find a yellow wall color like the one in your pillows that works well on walls. It is usually either too stark or too bright....See Moreneed help deciding on accent chairs, curtains and decorative pillows
Comments (8)As apple pie said, your rug is the focal point, so for window treatments I would do a border drape…off white and preferably brown border if you can find the right tone. That will bring a darker color down to meet the rug…you find better than this…but it is the idea.. Maybe just two small lumbars on the sofa, but at the arms not the back were there is already lumbar support. Off white and brown chairs…from Anthropologie. Last a chunky fab throw for the sofa. .....See MorePlease Help Newbie w/Living Room Decor Disaster!
Comments (6)Okay, this is totally salvageable. If you can't go hire with the curtains, I would ditch them altogether in favor of a fabric roman shade, get a white slip cover for the couch, and bring in some color with an oriental rug and some throw pillows is a color pulled from the rug. If you are going for a farmhouse look, you could do a sisal rug and some ticking stripe pillows instead. I like your wall color....See MoreJ Berry
