That's not goosegrass, it's nutsedge. Nutsedge is a royal PITA! It makes sense that it's growing where it's getting plenty of moisture, because it does like moist areas. Although it will survive and thrive in areas that are not necessarily moist, and is an excellent reproducer, so get rid of it now! It's very easy to pull up - HOWEVER, it has little root tubers which stay in the soil even though roots come up when you pull it. Then next year, you'll have a dozen to replace each one you pulled. I learned this the hard way. The only herbicide that will kill nutsedge is Sedgehammer. You probably won't see it at Lowe's or someplace like that, but nurseries and garden centers usually carry it. man this one is very stubborn. The root is like dandelion's but not that deep, If I hand pull them the root won't come up. I have the dandelion digger but there's lots and lots of these in my lawn. I notice that me and my other two neighbors also have this kind of weed, but not everyone in the neighborhood. This weed is not very common in my area... so any idea why that is? I hand pull them 2 weeks ago and now look at how fast they've grown back!!

Hi, thank you for your help. I'll try to answer your questions. 1. I'm not sure of "types" of grass but I purchased an all purpose sun and shade grass seed and planted that. To me that seems like grass. Basically...and this may sound stupid but a grass that grows vertical? Sorry I am new to lawn care. I've never had a lawn growing up. Also the weed in the picture is only in my front lawn. it covers maybe 50% of it. the rest seems to me like normal grass, but again I know i sound stupid as to what "normal" grass might be. 2. I water about 3 times a week for 20 min each cycle. I have a sprinkler system with 8 zones each at 20 min. I have no idea if this is set right but I assume thats another forum. 3. I try to mow low enough but I also try to keep the blades between 2 and 3 inches. 4. I live in Santa Barbara CA. 5. Please let me know if you need more photos. 6. I have looked up many pictures of St. Augustine and i'm not sure thats it but I could be wrong as you obviously know more then I do. 7. I can also attach a picture of the grass I planted. What you're remembering as "Albert Barnes" is likely the found rose called "Abbott & Burns", which has been described as a Lawrenciana, or "mini-China", along the lines of 'Rouletii' and 'Oakington Ruby'. I don't have it, but last year I did get Dolly Dudley from Rose Petals Nursery. Cydney Wade, the owner, told me it may be the same as "Abbott & Burns". Whether or not they're exactly the same I don't know. But they must be similar enough that people think they might be. I can't help you with the other one. Maybe you nabbed another found rose going by the name of Pam's Pink. Otherwise, search HMF for other roses with "Pam" in the name. :-) ~Christopher
