THIS is why I order Austin roses from David Austin Roses.
Comments (32)Rebecca- your roses are gorgeous but so much work. I live in Massachusetts. It is so difficult to even dig a hole 10 inches deep with all the rock, boulders and ledge so I try to buy only own root roses. I have gotten some wonderful own root roses from DA and have some more scheduled for delivery next week. I hope they add more own root to their collections. I recently ordered 'Queen of Sweden' and 'Windermere' which is by far my healthiest DA rose and covers herself with delicate soft blush pink blooms from early summer till fall. She is cane hardy in my Z5b-6a garden. The only negative is lack of the "to die for" strong perfume scent that Austins are so known for. sharon...See MoreReceived my roses from David Austin (Texas) today
Comments (45)Helen, I’m a little confused about Boscobel. When I ordered mine, I ordered it potted, because I wanted it ownroot. Now, when I go to DA’s site Boscobel says nothing about being ownroot anymore. I’m almost certain what I ordered was supposed to be ownroot. I don’t always trust myself, because my MS messes up my short term memory terribly. It’s getting later and later in the season for planting for me. If there’s a very long wait for my potted Boscobel, and the bareroots are supposed to be ownroot, I’d rather switch and take the bareroot now. I know I need to call them, but I’m wondering about them telling you Boscobel was ownroot and it appears to be grafted. I definitely want ownroot. It doesn’t really matter to me whether it’s bareroot or potted. I’m hoping you, or someone can confirm that it WAS listed as ownroot, previously. I don’t 100% trust my memory, and hate making a fool of myself(again) by insisting on something that I’m not remembering correctly. Thanks to anyone that can shed some light on this before I call DA:) Lisa...See MoreJames Galway, a beautiful David Austin climber
Comments (49)This is the first I've seen this thread and it makes me so excited that I already have this rose. When Lilyfinch was moving away I bought from her several of her roses that she had received in the early spring, but realized didn't need to be planted before she left. Poor JG was a nub and hadn't had an easy time of his early life--I think she threw him in the batch I bought from her for her for free. I planted him at the base of my beautiful limestone chimney and it wasn't until late in the summer he seemed to make a recovery a got going. He should start with a few blooms this spring--we'll see. This thread sure has gotten my hopes up!! dianela7bnorthal I'll let you know how he does on disease resistance. I'm just north of you and I suspect we have similar disease pressure....See MoreK and M roses/David Austin roses
Comments (52)Beth Hana I'm interested in BUYING your cuttings of the Prince & Cymbaline and any Austin that smell good from you. I almost bought the Prince back in 2012 from Chamblee's Nursery in Texas but my daughter didn't like its color !! Now I regret it. Few years ago I bought Young Lycidas and it died in its first winter in my zone 5a as grafted-on-Dr.Huey. Grafted roses don't survive freezing rain in my poor drainage clay. Get tired of $3,000 worth of roses dying through my zone 5a winter for the past 3 decades, so I get into rooting roses to donate to charity instead. pricklycuttingnoca I rooted a few The Squire this year, it's drought & heat tolerant.
