Malwarebytes - Is there a better alternative?

We've used the free version for years and it always did a good job. Now they want $40.00 a year per machine. Having multiple computers, I'm wondering if there is a better choice which gives a discount for multiple licenses?

Unless I'm missing something...Malwarebytes still offers their free version for any number of computers. The $40/year/computer is for their paid Premium version. Why would you want to improve upon perfection?

If you will note at the top, you still have the option of the free version.

Once in a while I will get a "free trial of our Premium version". When the "free trial" is about to end I will get a few extra bleats about wanting more money, but when the deadline passes it goes right back to the ordinary free version all by itself. Nothing to worry about, IMHO.

I spray using mancozeb and alternate it with Daconil/Funginex/Honor Guard every three to four weeks depending on how things look. I alternate the preventive to try and avoid the buildup of reisitance to the chemicals. However, I never use Daconil if it is going to be over 80 degrees outside within 24 hours of spraying the Daconil. It will burn the foliage badly otherwise. Once in a great while I will mix in Captan to chase off botrytis. My method works well enough for me and is relatively inexpensive considering I have 225+ rose bushes to treat. I honestly never have major issues with fungal disease in my garden.

Hi there all of you! Look I am a REAL amateur...and am growing roses.. and am rooting them... and its not hard at all. I tried to root about 5 cuttings...last fall and all of them budded...and leafed. I made a couple of mistakes...but I learned... and ONE...is alive..and growing. Hereis how: Old grandmothers..knew. That was my first lesson. How do you think they shared with neighbors? Well, just like me. I cut off the rose..in the fall... and I stuck the cuttings in juice bottles..with water.. They developed roots...little ones...and several didn't...but they all leafed. Its the " where you cut "..that is important. Amazing eh? I kept two of the smaller bottles..like olive bottles..( because they had cuttings only 5 inches high) in my bathroom window near the open window..( cracked open about 1 inch) These leafed in spring. The others also leafed. I merely took the ends...which had little roots.. and several didn't...( these I just dipped in rooting hormone and dipped a pencil in the dirt..and planted the branch) and planted them..in dirt you buy from wallmart..or anywhere : Potting Soil. I placed them outside. Lesson one: Don't put them down on a deck...Squirrels dig. Lesson two...you might lose some..to something that turns the branch dark...and they die. Lesson...several make it! This fall...I will do it again. Happy rooting!

A better finch sock and alternative feeders?

Hi Paul, I have my finch feeder (from either Home Depot or Lowe's) outside now and it has been a huge hit with the goldfinches. I think it's a Perky Pet brand plain old plastic finch feeder, with a silver top, about $12.00 - and this feeder has fallen down from high up over our patio and not a crack. The seed in it also holds up well after a snowstorm. On this feeder I push all of the 3 perches in far enough so that three are quite short (sparrows like longer perches I guess, so this should help discourage them. I guess goldfinches don't care, because they use them). Perky Pet also makes an inexpensive feeder specially designed for goldfinches - where the seed portals are placed below the perches, which is not a problem for the finches but is a problem for other birds. The programs that I have used in the past were Norton, Avast, and McAfee. IMO they were all horrible. Caused my computer to be extremely slow, as well as other issues. When I found Malwarebytes, I was very happy with it. Used the free for personal use version for several years. Then when I started being hit with ransomware, decided it was time to start paying for a program I knew was good. Have not regretted it. What I ended up doing was disconnecting the power from my computer, home network router, and cable internet router for most of the day. I was away from home so did not need the computer. Upon restarting internet router, then home network router, then computer, my problems ended. Malwarebytes ran a scan (3.1.2 version and all is good. I love Malwarebytes. The problem now is that I keep getting a warning from "Microsoft Technologies" that I have threats that need to be repaired. How in the .... do I get rid of that?

I have the paid version on my desktop computer. I need it on a laptop I take with me. Same thing with my husband, desktop/laptop.

That would cost $160.00 per year.

Husband had the free version for years when suddenly, during an update it became the trial version. I checked to make sure he didn't click something wrong, but there was no option. So he's been dealing with the free trial.

Same thing happened with my laptop.

I don't understand why they don't allow you to use the license on at least one other computer.

Was hoping there was another alternative.

Every program update of Malwarebytes free version activates a limited-time trial of the premium version (definition updates don't activate it). The trial can be deactivated via a menu option somewhere in the settings after an update installs ... until the next update activates it again.

If you use one of the top rated security (some call them anti-virus) systems, you'll have no need for malwarebytes. Check with your internet provider, many offer Norton or McAfee (both top products) for free.

I have different internet providers (two homes, one is Comcast, and one is TWC) and I have to say that finding the right page that provides the link for a download can be a challenge. You can try a search for each of those names on the provider's website and if you find nothing, call customer support. If they do provide it, ask them to send you an email with a link.
