Credit score versus the car dealership? I have a question!

We are looking at buying a new car and I'm wondering if a low credit score is a dealership trick to get more money out of you...you know how we all distrust the dealership...right?! HAHA! So, my husband is buying a car and he keeps up with his FICO score via the credit card company...I think Capital One is the one he uses. So he knew his credit score from that. But when we get down to the business of getting the monthly payment amount, they came back with showing his credit score as being 35 points lower than what the credit card company tells him it is. Then they show the payment is higher than we had agreed upon because of the lower credit score! We argue and get nowhere. They say that their bank has their own process of figuring a credit score. Is this true or a trick to get more money. Then...how do we prove that his credit score is "X" points and not "Y" points, as they claim it is?
