sunroom/four seasons room?
Comments (18)Our sunroom is down a very short hallway from the kitchen / greatroom. It was drawn in our plans as a screened in porch but we decided to make it an all-season room. Deciding how to use this room has been the greatest challenge of moving in. Do I want it to be "garden like" with plants and patio furniture? Or do I want a bookstore like atmosphere with soft seating and small tables? Right now, we're using it to hold furniture that has no other place in our home at the present time. When we have guests, we often end up out in the sunroom with the windows open, breeze and bird songs coming through. It's on the southside so so it's sunny in the morning and shady in the afternoon. It's the perfect little getaway. I'm glad that it's away from the central location of the kitchen and greatroom. (and the TV) It's a nice size but If I could do it again, I'd make it twice as big. Then I could put a big table for dining as well as an area for chairs and relaxing....See MoreFlooring in three season sun room
Comments (1)You have very few choices. No type of vinyl will work...no vinyl plank, vinyl, Luxury vinyl, etc etc etc. No laminate, no wood. Possibly a floating vinyl fiber floor with a large expansion gap could work but will not be manufacturer approved. Carpet or Porcelain ceramic tile will work and can be warranted. That is really about it. This is why most have carpet. Sorry. Other posters may disagree somewhat, but you can take this info as fact. We sell it all and have seen it all. We had 5000 sq ft of vinyl plank blow up 6 weeks ago because it was laid without proper heating source installed yet, than it got warm and it lifted 3 inches off the floor in spots. Tore it all out. Good Luck....See More3 season versus 4 season sunroom
Comments (3)Well I get this question so often. I think if you want a four season room then just build an addition and get it over with. I live in the Northeast and I love my porch, but I really can't use it in the winter. But thru the Spring, Summer and Fall its' just great. Thats where I read my Sunday paper! Where I fall asleep or hang around with my kids. In late fall, when it really starts getting cold, we close it up for the winter. The three seasons we get out of it each year is something we look forwar to opening is the Spring. Can't you give up that one season! In my opinion a four season room is just another room added to the home. But the screen porch, oh - the breeze. Comments (16)We were mulling over the same question a few years ago. We started out thinking screened porch but then realized how much we needed a 4-season gathering space when we entertained. Friends who had gone the 3-season route told us they were essentially 'no season' rooms because they were too hot in the summer and too cold in the winter (you know Minnesota extremes). So we decided to ante up for a 4-season room and we are so glad we did! We went 16'x24', put in 2 sliding glass patio doors to the deck, plus 8 good-sized windows, and a double French door to the dining room. It is a room of light all year round! We followed our furnace guy's recommendation to put in a gas fireplace for heat and a ductless minisplit for air conditioning. They both work splendidly and we can just turn them off and shut the door to the rest of the house when we're not using the room. We love the room in all seasons. With the help and advice of some very skilled siblings, we did almost all the work ourselves and it cost around $40,000....See Morefunctionthenlook
